I just ordered this because i can't use chalk in my gym. Looks perfect. Anybody used this before or something similar?

I honestly don't get why gyms are silly enough to ban chalk but not chalk alternatives.

i like using chalk but since i dont own the place i am always having to be all careful not to make a mess and end up taking twice as long chalking up. this seems like it can something to throw in my bag and use without a hassle. once i get a home gym my chalk bowl will be used before every set.

I use a rosin bag. It leaves a little powdery residue, although not nearly as much as chalk. I work out at home, so I make the rules at my gym. I bet if I did use a gym that banned chalk, I could get away with keeping a rosin bag in my pants pocket or gym bag and use it without anyone being the wiser. I also am interested in hearing about how well this product works and may switch to it if it gets positive reviews here.

I use normal chalk at my gym which doesn't allow chalk. Frankly, I feel the gym should be providing me chalk, because it's a GYM, so fuck them. If I get chalk on their floor they can cry me a river. I do try to be discrete though so I don't cause problems.

Depending on the type of gym you go to you'll get a different type of crowd.
The gym I go to is a University gym, some people actually dress up to look nice since for them part of the fun is peacocking, so they rather not get chalk on their fancy apparel.
Is this absolutely ridiculous? Yes.
But is it my call? No.
The gym is a shared environment, you've got to do your best to respect the community within, even if they have some very fruity regulations.

Good to know. That's the same thing I was thinking about doing until I found this product.

OK, I just used this product for the first time. It arrived very fast no problems. I applied it by spraying it in one palm and rubbing my hands together. It spreads evenly and dries very fast leaving a very thin white film. No mess at all and not sticky. It gave a nice feel and did keep my hands dry but seemed to wear off fast. I reapplied it about every other set though not thick. It did improve grip somewhat, definitely better than not using anything at all. While I was waiting on this to arrive I did try a rosin bag as Lex suggested. I picked up a small pocket sized one for $3. It does make a little puff of powder when you use it, but if you are careful it does not get on the floor. I think I preferred the rosin more because it goes on heavier and improves grip more like chalk. If your main concern is not making a mess or transferring it to you cloths ect. I would say try this spray. It washed off easily and did not leave my hands as dry as the rosin afterwords.

I can understand why chalk isn't allowed at some gyms. Some people have pretty bad allergies to chalk and dust so maybe the gym wants everyone to have a chance at enjoying their workout without allergies. But they should at least have a seperate station just for people who like to use chalk. As for the powder spray, that sounds like a great idea!

I agree. I use chalk even though they don't allow it. I'm as discreet as possible and make sure to clean the bar off when I'm finished.

When someone approaches me and tells me I can't use it then I'll deal with it. But given the fact that hubby and I have been members since before the place opened 7 years ago I'm hoping they'll turn a blind eye.

Yeah, whenever I brought chalk to a gym that didn't allow it, they never actually said anything to me when I used it. The best commerical gym I ever went to provided chalk though. But most commerical gyms out there are more concered with making the place look pretty so they can generate more sales. Now I train either in my garage or on a military installation so I can use whatever I want but haven't chalked up in a while. Come to think of it, I need to start using it again since my hands are getting a little tore up lately.

I think I saw that spray chalk alternative being used in one of the WSM competitions before.
