I'm a (university) student in the UK, found this wonderful site a few months ago researching correct lifting technique.
All through school I was the overweight, unfit kid who dreaded games and PE, so last summer I finally made a big effort to sort out my diet and do lots of running (that was what I had in my head as the way to lose weight at the time). By winter I was doing 3 miles in about 21 minutes, about 4 pullups and over 30 pushups; not amazing by a long shot but a big improvement. Incidentally I'd also lost most of the fat and was down to 69kg.
So what next? Well, it seemed to me that perhaps I was getting too thin (!), and I wanted some more muscle. Joined the gym, pottered about on the machines for a couple of months making very little progress, then read a lot on the internet about how great freeweights and basic barbell routines are for noobs like me. 5 months later I've slapped on almost 16kg drinking 2.25 litres of whole milk per day (mostly muscle, though a bit of fat too), thanks to Stronglifts!
Now my goals are to get as strong as possible without getting too chubby again, then drop some of that pesky adipose layer. Bulk and cut cycle basically I guess. I have to admit, some of the waistbands on my trousers are becoming uncomfortable
Thanks for reading!
