Groin/inner leg feels pulled while doing 1 leg bridges

Postby Nicketzsche on Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:27 pm

I seem to remember pulling it a little tight doing squats 3 days ago (I think my feet were too far apart?) Squats today I didn't have my feet so far apart (still shoulder width though), and I didn't notice any pain in that area. I also did deadlift no problem.

But when I went over and was doing 1 leg bridges, I couldn't do them on the one side because of the pain (didn't want to make the pain worse of course). Also when I jump on my bed in the evening on that side i can feel something was strained in that area (that tendon? right where the leg meets the torso on the inside of the leg).

I'm not really going to take a timeout from squats/deadlift, I've been making great progress and whatever it is isn't agitated during those exercises. I guess really I'm just wondering what it was that is strained.

Sounds like you might have pulled it, I would say it would be a good idea to ice it for a few days maybe even a week. Remember ice post workout, heat preworkout. If it is not hurting during squats keep doing them and pay attention to form. I know there is a lot of forum threads here about static stretching being bad, but this is the case preworkout, not post, so maybe try and stretch your groin out after you get done with you squats and dead lifts before you jump into prone one legged bridges or even before you throw yourself in the bed for the night. And kudo's BTW on being able to do 1 legged bridges....lots of core muscels at work in those. Christian

Dude,

First of all thanks... the idea of single leg plank never occured to me and never seen it.. they will be part of my routine from now on.

Regarding your pain... How you getting on?.. doesn't sound like a pull to me... especially if you are talking about the fold area next to your pubic region. The groin muscles insert to your pubic bone which is above your junk not next to it... let us know How you are doing if you are still in pain I'll chuck a few ideas into the pot.

Deloaded squat and stopped the single leg planks. The pain has been gone for a couple weeks, and so far everything is going great. I even did some interval sprinting over the weekend and no pain to speak of (not even knee pain!). The sprinting really was a great way to hit some muscles 5x5 was missing (lot of muscles crying that they've been worked).

I started doing more mobility work (leg swings, goodmorning stretches), and that's felt really good. I think it was the fact that I was approaching stall weight for the first time on squat, and my body needed time to adjust to working so hard for each rep.
