I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Ai ai ai ai ... not good, not good at all.
Luckily your physical damage is limited, it could have been worse (I know/knew 2 guys who hit such a post the wrong way. One does not live to tell anymore  , the other spent 4 months in hospital  )

Oh dear mate. Glad you're not hurt too badly. Sorry about the bike too.

Hope you're back in action soon. My mum told me I was never allowed a motorbike...

GKW-

In high school, I had a friend who laid his bike down in front of me when he hit some gravel and I'm driving my car right behind him...SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME.

I do crazy things now and then but I've never been on a bike since that day.

Glad you suffered no serious problems...sorry about the bike too.

Get well, heal fast.

Thanks for that guys, I couldn't get on last light, maybe the site was down again?
So far my knee is reasonably OK, it just aches some of the time and is still a little swollen, but only a little. As long as I don't put too much pressure on it, and I'm on a flat surface, then I can manage. I still haven't got full ROM, because when the knee is at (or should I say near) full contraction, it does hurt a bit. As far as workouts go, I'm not going to do squats or DLs (my wife would kill me if the weights didn't!), so I'll come up with something on the fly and take it from there.
As for the bike, I'm lucky that I've got another to ride, even though it's the 'rat bike' I use in winter, but of the two, the wrong one got smashed up. I can't blame anyone but myself, and it was an accident rather than stupidity, I'm just glad I'm still here. :)

Stay Strong Everyone

Hang on a minute, when you came on my log telling me to learn to ride you didn't say anything about it being dangerous!!!

I know how it feels actually, albeit at a slower pace. Last year I got knocked off my pushbike twice (went over the handlebars) and spent a few weeks nursing similar aches and pains. What made it worse was it took about two or three weeks for me to bother to repair the bike, and as soon as I got back on it some other bastard knocked me off! I landed in exactly the same places too.....

Hope you feel better too, if it's anything like me most of the hurt was at the cost of repairs/replacements rather than the lumps and bumps on me.

How did the accident happen?

@mouse. Thanks dude. I'm not one of these people who thinks of a bike as 'her' or 'she', I see it as...well 'it'! Damn shame 'it's' bent now though!

@nburge. Neil, mate, don't be put off by my 'little tumble', as mouse says above, he's a biker as well, and I'm sure he'd tell you the same as me: Get your test passed and get riding'. :D
Push bikes are even more exposed than motorbikes, at least I'd got loads of padding, boots & full-face helmet!
accident happened on a really sharp, off-camber junction. As I turned off I swerved to avoid a car and hit the 'drop curb' for the gateway. Front wheel went onto the grass and the bike went down on the right hand side, then hit the gate post and stopped dead, I kept going and went arse over tit (a bit like you did!). Every bit of body work is fooked, but also the left-hand front fork is bent as well! £££s :(

Ouch. And double ouch in the wallet too.

I'm not put off by the fact people have accidents. If I was I'd live wrapped in cotton wool in a library basement. I get out and enjoy life JUST BECAUSE I don't know when it's going to end. Plus I paid £950 for a direct access course and £50 for a provisional driving license so I'm DAMN WELL going to get myself a bike!

Shame the bike got a pounding, it does at least demonstrate that the safety clothing works though :)

Get on the foam roller and see if that works for bike injuries...

Hey FGNM. Nah man, wasn't bad enough for that. It's OK until it gets twisted, then I can feel it a bit, but only just.

Last night didn't go to plan either. I was totally wiped when I got home so I sat it out until I went to bed :? . Hopefully try again tonight.

Whadda week!

27/06/09 Workout A

Squat 80kgs 5,5,5,5,5
Bench 72.5kgs 5,5,5,5,5
BOR 62.5 5,5,5,5,5
Dips BW 15,10,8
RC 3 x 15

Squats: In an effort to make sure there was no unnecessary pressure on my knee, I chose to do WO A and keep away from DLs for another couple of days (should be OK by then). I also chose to do some nice light squats for the same reason, and there were no ill effects. While I was using light weight I made sure I used good form. Stance was a little wider than usual, and I know I am below parallel because I can touch the bar on the safety rails. While form is good I might work my way back up in 5kg steps.

Bench: Watched the Starting Strength DVD Bench section again the other day and tried the method described. Seemed to work OK, but a few reps were very slow going up, so I'm not going to increase the weight yet.

BOR: Not too bad. I'll give them one more go at this weight, and then if I think my form is OK I'll add weight.

Dips: OK, but I would like a few more reps on the second and third sets before going to weighted dips.

RC: Went for 3 x 15 and managed them OK. Good burn in the abs and I can feel them today! :)

Feel the burn, willie!

What was different about your bench form after listening to Mr. Ripp?
