I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

@ bluestreak. Thanks man. I know I keep saying it, but those OHP's are a bitch! As for the press ups, I do them with the weight in a rack sack on my back, it's just a question of whether I use 4 x 5kg plates or 1 x 20kg. I'll try and film some for your and everyone else's entertainment!

@ guru. Thanks dude, time to tear them mother's a new a**hole!

@ AD69 & Silentbob. Cheers guys. MyProtein are showing ZMA as out of stock at the mo, but I will try some.

Boditronics do their own too, and you can collect points when you shop with them. They also do the best tasting whey on the market.

Or try www.solosupplements.co.uk who sell a variety of brands at a discount (plus 10% off orders over £50). Let me know if you want to try them and I'll give you the discount code.

hey gkw, have you ever tried squatting/deadlifting without shoes? that's a whole new feeling. unfortunately I have to wear shoes at my gym, but chucks are pretty good too...

40kg OHP will be a lot easier than 37,5kg, you just have to believe it! ;)

Cheers helm. Maybe I ought to take the Ronnie Coleman/Branch Warren approach and shout LIGHT WEIGHT! at the top of my voice 2 or 3 times before attempting the lift....

I've bought a weight belt. I know opinion is divided on the subject of belt or no belt, but after Wednesdays silliness I'm not taking any chances. Besides I was watching a video of Mark Rippetoe squating with 300+ lbs and he's got one on, so if it's good enough for him then...
Anyway, I didn't go for some cheap crappy thing, I spent some cash and got one of these http://www.maximuscle.com/trainingaccessories/leatherpowerbelts.html.

Tried it tonight and it's pretty good. Shouldn't need to buy another one as the quality is very good. :D

At 43 years old, I think it makes sense to use a belt (he'll I'm thinking of busting mine out again soon too). I haven't seen that particular belt before but as long as it's a thick powerlifting belt (which it appears to be in the pic) it should last you forever. I still have the one I bought in 1997 and it's still like brand new.

Cheers dada, I'm taking it on a workout by workout basis, if I feel I need to use I will, rather than being daft and risking it. Us oldsters haven't got as many brain cells as we used to have, and they're getting less every day!

Hey Willie...just dropped in to read your log. I must be one of the few people on the planet who don't mind doing OHP...but then again there's no serious weight involved yet, maybe I'll change my mind as I progress.

Hey Everyone
Not been around for a couple of days hence no activity. After last Tuesday's workout I decided to have a rest so no workout on Thursday, I will carry on where I left off tonight (Sunday). I'm still feeling tired so the extra couple of days will (hopefully) make a difference.

@Oxygen8. Believe me mate, I'm sure everybody thinks that while the weights are low! :D Just kidding, if you like them dude, that could be the difference between struggling and not struggling later on. 8)

Workout A
Squats: 77.5kg 5,5,5,5,5 (with belt)
Bench: 60kg 5,5,5,5,5
BOR: 50kg 5,5,5,5,5
Press up: BW+20kg 5,5,3
Reverse Crunch: 3 x 12 (with straight legs)

Squats: Sorry guys, didn't want to risk anything so I used the belt. Getting back towards 82.5kg now and it's the weight I hurt my back at last time, and if wearing the belt stops it happening again, then so be it.

Bench: 5 x 5 so 62.5kg next time. Only just got them though! :)

BOR: Last rep of last set didn't touch my chest so I am leaving it at 50kg for next time.

Press up: These were hard hence only 3 reps on set 3. Still that's not bad for saying I'd not done them with 20kg before! :)

RC: Done with straight legs these are just a bit harder than with bent legs. That's what I wanted and that's what I got! :)

Still don't seem to have much energy at the moment and I'm sure it's down to diet. I don't think I'm eating enough and I must do something about it. :?

Workout B
Squat: 85kg 5,5,5,5,5 (no belt)
OHP: 47.5kg 5,5,5,5,5
DL: 122.5kg 1 x 5
PU: BW 5,4,3
PB: 3 x 60 sec

OK, before we go any further, guru has pointed out that I don't include my bar weight in my logs, but I used to add a line to my sig saying all weights were minus 7.5kg. It never occurred to me include the bar weight, and once I'd started recording a log I didn't want to confuse anyone. This of course has resulted in just that! So, as you can see I have now amended the weights to include the bar, which is why it looks like such a big jump. Sorry for making such a mess out of something so simple!

Squats: Well I kept the weight the same as last time and got 5 x 5 so I will add 2kg next time.

OHP: Busted straight through these tonight and I can't explain why  . 5 x 5 so add 2kg next time 8) .

DL: Just got 'em but I will have to watch form from now on. I also re-watched mehdi's deadlift video and realised my bar was not high enough, it was nowhere near mid shin height. I put the bar on some blocks and repped out 5 x 5, that means 127.5kg next time.

PU: 5,4,3 WTF! I don't know what's going on with these as I seem to get worse rather than better. It could be the DLs that are screwing these up but to be honest I'm not that bothered :| .

PB: 3 x 60secs. Still shaking like a leaf, and after doing reverse crunches with straight legs on Sunday, my abs were still feeling it. I'm going to keep it a 60 secs until I can do them without shaking.

Now, riddle me this. Just lately I've not been eating quite as much as I have in the last 3 months. I've stopped drinking the 4 pints of milk a day I was on, and today I've gone back to drinking more tea and coffee than water. Yet tonight I pretty much nailed everything except pull-ups. I just don't get it, everything I read on this site says eat more, eat big etc, yet as soon as I do I feel like crap. When I go back to eating like I did before starting 5 x 5 I do better! It just doesn't make sense! :?

Hi guru. No problem dude, I knew you weren't being serious, it's just one of those things that starts out being one thing for all the right reasons, and ends up a bit of a mess! At least now (hopefully) it's all straight and there won't be any confusion :D .
Cheers
