I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

USA
Marion, North Carolina
Club Fitness
can't remember the address
2 power racks, 2 open squat racks, area for olympic lifts, some bumper plates, plenty of normal plates, chains, 5 benches for bench press, 3 benches for dumbbell presses, separate small room with a few old worn out machines and another bench.
The managers are awesome. They know what they're doing and will give you a discount if you're friendly. There's no membership card because it's a small town, small gym, and everyone knows everyone else in the gym. Everyone that works out there looks like powerlifters or huge bodybuilders on steroids.
Everyone there is cool, and I would live there if I could, but I only go up to North Carolina a few times a year and that's where I workout when I do. I actually just started going there last year.

Doesnt look it when you walk in (or from the website), but tucked away behind the pool side seating, is a relic from the eighties.
It is called the Pump Room (shudder) and you have to ask specifically for it when you sign up (over 18s only).
it has various hammer strength machines, 4 olympic barbells + bumperplates (nowhere to actually do olympic lifting though), DBs up to 50kg, cable station, dip/situp thing, SQUAT RACK (the only one for miles!!) normal and incline bench etc.
people there are ok, mainly upperbody guys only but some are cool, gym trainers leave you to it (i have squatted barefoot covered in chalk and they barely batted an eyelid).
if you do join, please dont abuse the equipment and remeber to tidy your shit up. im friends with the head 'trainer' and he understands what is needed down there (he recently got 2 bent bars and broken pads and th AC fixed) but the management are a bunch of of heartless tightwads who dont really care about the weight room, so dont mess shit up.

Country: Canada
Province: British Columbia
City: Vancouver
Neighbourhood: Kitsilano/Point Grey
Name of Gym: West Side Gym
Address: 3313 West Broadway
Equipment: 1 squat rack, bench and lots of plates of all sizes. Three bars, one of them a lighter one, two easy bars and many cardio machines for the Hamster in you, :?

It's a small gym, but the rack is rarely used even in peak times. Staff is good as in they never leave the front desk (but they will spot if you ask them). I've been there since January 2008 and like it because you will not find any people with an attitude.

Webpage: www.westsidegym.ca

Also, there are several COmunity Centers around the City, you can find the link at Vancouver.ca. MOst of them have racks and lots of plates, but they can get crowded due to the many advantages you get with the flexi pass.
I know you really, really want it Nefesh, but is not in anyone's best interest. Not even yours

* Country: Canada
* Region: Montreal (downtown)
* Name of gym: Nautilus Plus
* Address: Place Montreal Trust, 1500 McGill College, Montréal, QC H3A 3J5
* Equipment: 2 squat racks, 4 flat benches for bench press, olympic bars, lots of plates and cardio machines. Although there is no dedicated deadlifing platform, there are rubber mats everywhere. The use of chalk is not allowed.
* Short review: clean, well maintained, trainers are friendly and non-intrusive. The Smith machine and benches are frequently in use so squat racks are generally free. Best times to go are weekdays 8-10 am and 1-3pm as this is located next to a big university and several financial institutions.

Here's the gym I currently go to, it's Glasgow University's gym:

Scotland, UK
Glasgow
Glasgow University Gym
University Avenue, Glasgow, G12‎

Equipment:
1 power rack, 1 squat rack, 1 bench
2 (kind of old) olympic-type bars, don't know if they're standard but they weigh 20k for sure. 1 other fatter bar. 25k, 20k, 15k, 10k, 5k, 2.5k, 1.25k plates, dumbells, etc

All lifts allowed,
barefoot lifting generally not allowed.

It can get busy but generally it's ok.

the Gold's gym in concord sucks. Too clean, 1 squat rack, not much to offer. Not busy though, which is nice. But I don't care for it, and it's also expensive. Planet Fitness all the way, heh

I believe the Gold's in Concord is under different ownership, as my membership only covers one visit per week there. Planet Fitness got rid of ALL, and I do mean ALL (minus the preloaded 60lbs and under ones) of their barbells at the Manchester Huse Rd. and Manchester west locations. No squat racks, benches, nothing. The brand new location in Stratham is like that too. I canceled my membership with them and joined Gold's at that time (late Jan.) This looks like it will happen at all PF locations, so I would recommend having a plan B.
