I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hair Loss and Receding Hairline

Postby NeverGiveUp on Sat Mar 28, 2009 9:29 pm

Well fellas,

Just went to get the mop chopped... and wow I'm losing my hair and I'm only 21. Man it's not cool to be losing my hair this young but I was cursed with bad headnetics I guess. Anyway I'm thinking about buzzing it really close or just shaving it bare naked and was wondering what you guys think.

Also any experience strength or hope on hair loss you would like to share would be greatly appreciated. (just kidding)

I got a pretty bald head and I just shave it with a number 1...more of a buzz I think. About the same time I started losing mine. I knew a kid that was bald like bozo the clown when he was 17!! (Only had hair on the side of his head) First time he took off his hat....woah...what?? I don't even worry about it to be honest. I will never try rogaine or anything like that. Just shave it and be done with it.

I started going bald at 21 so I just shaved it off like Kojak. Back then people used to stare and say things like "hey are you a nazi?" which was a pain. These days no one seems to care if you're bald - but it still looks just as cool :)

You're supposed to grow a goatee though and wear a beenie when you squat if you're going to be taken seriously as a powerlifter.

Squat 500+
Pess 315 (on a good day)
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up

I had a goatee but shaved the chin part for a fu-man-chu. This has helped my squat considerably! I never thought about the beanie part, I'll get one of those and add quite a bit of weight.

You guys crack me up. But somewhat seriously Nevergiveup, I started going bald around your age too. Little by little, bit by pathetic bit. It got to the stage where my hair was becoming wispy. Gooooshhh I hated that! So as herf said I just got it chopped off and was done with it. I bought my own clippers so a haircuts pretty cheap nowadyas and think of all the money you will save on shampoo, conditioner and colouring!!

I usually only have to buy 1 bottle of shampoo a year. Yes, I shower daily! I get my big bottle of head and shoulders from sams club. I also, like thunderdownunder, bought my own set of clippers and shave my head about 3 weeks. It seems the older I get the more the hair migrates from the top of my head to places I don't want it....back and ears!! I blame it on gravity and often contemplated walking around on my hands to reverse this.

I'm 17 and have been balding for quite a few months now. I first noticed it when my long hair didn't seem to grow quite like it used to. Also, my friends would joke, because my hair was always falling out, it seemed. So, one day out of boredom, me and my friends buzzed my hair real close. Hairline is receding!

Take propecia but first talk to your doctor so he can do proper blood exams.

And no. It does not cause impotence or sexual problems. I take it and my brother in law take it and I have a health pretty niece.

I'm 26, same thing has been happening for last couple of years.

I'd like to keep my hair but if it gets worse I will probably just shave it...

I always found going bald to be way worse than being bald - once you're bald, you don't have to worry about losing any more hair.

I'm in my early 40s and my hairline is receding badly. I just have my wife clip with a #4 blade on top and a #2 blade on the sides.

I used to worry about this stuff when I was younger but I shaved my head to the skin with a razer a few years ago and it seemed like most people liked it better than with hair. So I wouldn't care at all if I start losing my hair. Usually now I just buzz mine really close but thinking of possibly going back to the Kojack, since I'm pretty close to it anyway except a litle fuzz.
