I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hey, i was just wondering if your neck gets bigger on stronglifts, ive been doing it a few months, and ive got stronger but my neck is pretty skinny. What sort of excercises add mass to your neck?
Thanks

Your traps (trapezius muscles) are anchored to your spine; they run from a point on your lower back right up to the top of your neck. As these muscles grow, they will make your neck look bigger.

My Neck/traps are very tight after starting lifting heavy weights, and they feel stronger/bigger. But they are not looking any stronger/bigger yet, but hey, I haven't even trained for a full year yet. They will come as you grow stronger.

Always had a thick neck regardless of how I trained, likely to offset my large head.

I don't know how big you are, but maybe if you grow bigger and eat more, your neck will grow

But anyway, when I used to do wrestling, my neck grew probably by a few inches. It exploded in size with all the extra neck exercises and neck bridges we would do. I could do neck bridges with another man trying to pin me.

So maybe some direct neck work will help.

Doesn't need neck bridges, though. Your traps form a diamond on your back; build those muscles and the upper edges of that diamond will be very prominent at the sides and rear of your neck. Past a certain point, some guys ending up with a no-neck pinhead look; it looks better on people who don't have small heads in proportion to their torso ;)

My neck has gotten thicker since I started SL, I can feel it when I tilt my head backwards. I think it's mostly fat

Don't know if it'll make it bigger, but at muay thai yesterday we spent about 5 minutes just doing neck exercises - lying flat on our back, keeping our head off the ground at all times, moving it back-forward, then left-right, then ears-to-shoulders for about 30 seconds each. Twice. Can see how that could make your neck stronger...it also hurt like a bitch!

Old topic, but

My neck has definitely gotten thicker. My family says my neck is as wide as my cranium (which is big)... probably from squatting and having my neck inflate to the broadness of my shoulders LOL.

I don't know much about neck size, but I do know power cleans have my traps screaming the day after. Try them instead of barbell rows.
