I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hey!

After months of just lurking this forum I decided to finally join this wonderful community :)

I started with lifting and fitness in general around a year ago and came across LOADS of information. I tried a lot of
stuff nutrition and exercise wise, but over time I came to the conclusion the stuff on this site makes the most sense,
and only rarely tries to sell you something. So I'm doing 5x5 for about seven weeks now and still enjoy it!

The fact I like most about this forum is that the quality of the posts compared to other boards is pretty high,

so thanks Mehdi & Forum Staff for keeping up this great site!

Welcome to stronglifts Demian. All the best with sl, I wish you a lot of success with it.

Curious about your username... is it inspired by the book by Hermann Hesse?

Thanks mjh!

Yes it's taken from Herman Hesse's book... He's one of the better things that came form Germany/Austria *cough* ;)

I've just started reading 'The Glass Bead Game', which you may know better as 'Magister Ludi'. I tried 'Steppenwolf' a few times but just couldn't get into it. May favourites by Hesse are 'Narcissus and Goldmund', and of course 'Siddhartha'.

A similar writer who I like a lot is Knut Hamsun from Norway. He's a lot like Hesse in many respects. I'd recommend 'the Wanderer' and 'the Women at the Pump'. Though, I am talking about reading both authors in English translations, which no doubt changes things a lot.

A student/English teacher from New Zealand reading German literature! Thumbs up!

"The Glass Bead Game" is actually called "Das Glasperlenspiel" so the translation is actually ok, but yes I guess especially with "hard" material like Steppenwolf a lot is lost in translation, so you are excused for not finishing it ;)

I think everyone should read Siddhartha as a Teen or Twen though :) I'll try to get some Hamsun the next time I'm at the library and see if its as good as you promised. :D

P.s.: I love this forum, so many interesting and helpful people bunched together!
