I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Today was the best and the worst day at the gym...

Squat
1x5x30kg
1x5x50
1x4x70
1x3x90
1x2x100
1x1x110
1x2x120
0x1x130

OHP
1x5x30kg
1x5x40
5x5x45

Deadlift
1x5x60kg
1x3x100
1x2x120
1x3x140

I decided to go for the max 1RM on squats, since it was my last day at that gym, probably even the last session for a few weeks.
all went well, felt really good with the 1x2x120kg, which made me confident to also be able to get the 130kgs. well, it didn't go the way I had it planned. I asked a guy to stand behind me and to help me get the weight up just a little, in case I should be stuck. that didn't work, so I had to drop the bar. result: everybody's attention, a nice bruise on the back, and a trainer complaining about the floor and the integrity of the building :?
at least now I know I should have tried 125kg, what failing feels like, and that dropping the bar is not the end of the world 8)
OHP. got it. yeah!
deads were nice too, but my legs were quite tired from the heavy squats. still using the overhand grip. I'm sure that chalk would help a lot with grip. however, new PR, that's nice!

Damn right it's not. If they don't expect you to drop the bar, how do they expect you to improve?
Congrats on the big deadlifts, too, Helm. Great stuff.
Hope it's not long before you find another gym.

apparently there's no gym around here that has a squat rack or even a cage. only lots of machines and cardio stuff

if I don't get lucky and find a place where I can squat that doesn't require extensive travel, I will go to one of those curl monkey places and start doing front squats. better than nothing, and I get to practice power cleans...

ok, today I tried one of the gyms without a squat rack. at least they had an oly bar. but only 105kg to throw on. I wasn't even sure if the oly bar weighs 20kg or less, it felt so light...

I wasn't really motivated cause I didn't feel very well in that gym, so I didn't get a complete session together

Front Squat/ Back Squat
1x5x20kg each
1x5x40 each
1x5x45 each
1x10x40 back

some OHP in between, with 40 and 45kg. didn't even count

Deadlift
1x5x60kg
1x4x90
1x3x110
1x3x125
no more weights

a few chin-ups

I miss my old gym!
today's place was warm, dark and stuffy, with carpet on the floor and lots of curl monkeys that looked at me like they had never seen someone doing things with a oly bar other than bench pressing. of course the smith machine was one of the most frequented machines...

Good for you for getting as much of a workout in as you could, Helm.
Hope you can find a better place!

Hey,

Looks like you're having trouble find a decent gym. Why don't you check any of the university gyms if there are any where you live that is? They're usually not too bad and have almost everything you need.
At least you're getting a workout in between and that's definitely better than nothing at all.

Keep it up Helm and good luck finding a gym soon.
