I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Monster bench press!

Make sure you put the effort into getting your squat up there with your bench though, that's the lift that will give you the most for rugby. Nothing quite like hitting a ruck and blowing multiple people off the ball, or smashing into the line like a cannon ball.

I just did 245, ass to grass, 5x5 today with little trouble. I'm not sure when I'll hit the wall but so far my lifts are advancing nicely. I'm going to try and keep up with a log in the section for that but I'm not exactly consistent with that stuff all the time....hopefully it'll keep me from boring my wife with my progress every day though

I was looking for nutritional advice, and the site came up in google search. Read all the articles, and got into 5x5 straight away,

I wanted to do more pullups.Actually i wanted to be able to do just one,i saw this site when i googled the info. The info was so precise and reliable when i put it into practice that i stuck with this site. The 5x5 program had me hooked as well. It's been more than 8 months now and i can do 12 pull ups now but this was after i went on the Armstrong method which was also recommended on this site.

I was searching for a program that would help me raise my squat and I found Stronglifts. I stayed because it's the perfect program.

I was looking for a new weight lifting routine...wanted to reduce my body fat levels...I've just turned 39 and into week 2 of the 5x5. I'm giving it a go and we'll see how this works out. So far so good. The routine is simple, hardest part is making sure I've got the right technique. I am doing stretching and cardio on the "days" off to keep up the metabolism and really watching what I eat...I think I am driving my wife nuts...but hey I want to look good when I turn 40!

i found this by simply looking for a beginner forum rather than the 'body building' sites that always offer the cutting edge etc etc. This gives solid, understandable workout and more importantly practical nutritional advice that i will be using

I used stumble upon and I ended here, a read the page and some of the articles and ust made sense, this was what I wanted, strength not size so I decided to start doing the routine and following some of the advices given by Mehdi, i´ve been doing this for 3 weeks now and i´m already having some results, but i´m sure this will get even better.

Hey everybody:

My name is Brian and I am from Fayetteville, NC. I am currently a seminary student at Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC. I found this website via a young man on BodySpace (bodybuilding.com) named Antonio. He has given me inspiration to continue to lose the fat and build muscle.

I was recovering from an injury (triceps tendon inflammation) after doing too many isolated triceps exercises because I was told my triceps were holding me back in the bench and shoulder presses. I managed to overwork my triceps and had an inflamed tendon for a few months. After i went back to the gym it was grueling, feeling weak etc. But then this instructor gave me a split called a 5x5 bare-bones-back-to-basics regime that I didn't think too much at the time but at his request i started on. Little did i know the crazy results i started seeing. I was stuck @ 135lbs on the bench and within 9 weeks I'm closing in on my 200lbs target. I did go a little overboard with the supplements - nothing too crazy a creatine/glutamine mix and 4 scoops of ON Whey a day along with 5/6 good meals a day.

In the meantime I didn't even know that the program was from StrongLifts.com as it was just given to me. I was talking to a friend of mine and it was he who pointed out that what I've been following is from this site. The first thing i did was join the forum in the morning and had a burning question to ask about deadlifts... So that's basically how i came across strong lifts :) -

i think he meant because a smith keeps you in a single plane and is not a natural arch where a barbell would go in lifts such as bench and squats. plus it takes the stabilizer muscles out of the equation. i bought one with a half rack and lat pulldown about a year ago and now i wish i would have bought a power rack instead. i did squats on it once and it just felt really unnatural. with inverted rows you canset the bar at a certain height to do the rows. thats what i got from his comment but he might be thinking something else.

I was searching for information on power racks and StrongLifts.com was one of the sights that I came across. I found plenty of information on power racks, but that wasn't all. I also found articles on how to lift weights, with a special emphasis on technique.
I also liked the articles about glute activation, soft tissue work etc.
StongLifts.com offers a fresh perspective and a philosophy that makes sense.

I stumbled onto this site many months ago while I was searching for videos on proper squat technicque, ironically, for another program. I read a few of the articles on technique as well as Medhi's summary of the Stronglifts program goals and it sparked my interest to say the least. In fact, Stronglifts appeared to be superior to the program I was preparing to start but I didn't want to give up on it before it even got off the ground. Many weeks later I abaondoned it anyway (mostly because it was too demanding for my lifestyle) and remembered Stronglifts. I went back to reaquaint myself and it was like a light bulb went on in my head; my goal had always been to be stronger yet every program I'd ever tried was for body building. Somewhere along the way the two had become synonymous and after rereading Medhi's site I finally saw the light.

That same week, I downloaded the e-book and made a couple trips to the gym to practice my technique on the lifts I had never done. For the first ten weeks I did the program pretty half-assed. I missed workouts and my diet was less than steller. I ate a lot of healthy foods but I also ate a lot of junk. The result was I gained about eight lbs of muscle but my body fat also went up to 20.5 percent from 19. Still I was floored. I had never seen that much strength/muscle gain from any of my previous programs and I had followed them to a T. I then went on hiatus for close to six weeks and during that time found a better job with better hours. It was the beginning of a new chapter for me thus it was at that point I decided I was going to give Stronglifts another serious try.

That was six weeks ago. I am eating well, I am stronger than I have ever been and my body fat has already dropped down to 18.5%. What's more, I feel great and my confidence has sky rocketed. All of these reasons, along with Medhi's no bs approach (giving Stronglifts away for free gives A LOT of credibility to this program imo) are why I stuck with it and will continue to stick with it far into the foreseeable future.
