How long did it take you to reach 1.5BW squat???

Postby dan574 on Sat Nov 08, 2008 7:33 am

Hi all, as the title says, how long did it take you?

Im into week 11 and have progressed as follows

Squat-70kg after starting again in week 8 due to to incorrect form and not going low enough.
Bench Press-75kg
Barbell Row-66kg
Overhead press-56kg
Deadlift-96kg
Dips(5kg)-11/9/8
Chins-10/7/4
pull ups- 8/6/5

How do these numbers compare? i got the weights in bench Press and OHP on the 3rd attempt after stalling.

Im starting to feel the squats, OHP and bench now and think that it wont be long until I have to deload.

Is this normal?

I am at session 6 and almost reached 1x BW (I weigh 83kg, still 2 sessions to go since I use 5kg increments until BW).
Then I should do 18 more sessions before reaching 1.5 BW which at current pace is a bit more then 2 months further if I use the scheduled 2.5kg increments (at 2 sessions per week).
I was already able to leg press 150kg before starting SL 5x5 so I am quite convinced I will be able to stick to that plan which to me as a project manager is quite important ;)

I forgot about my stats, Im 34, 182cm, 89kg. I like long walks on the beach, funny movies(oops sorry got carried away.) :D

Thanks for the replies, Im thinking of going up in smaller increases now on the squat from 5kg to 2.5kg.

For me, about 2 months of weights training, followed by a 3 month break (no exercise at all), then two months of weight training. But after the 4 months of weight training, my body fat (and body weight) had dropped significantly; meaning that I was squatting 1.5BW after about 2 months.

In other words, if you're not carrying too much fat, it shouldn't take too long. But then again, I've always had huuuge thighs and a complete lack of upper body muscle.

And a word of advice: never take too much time off weight training. You soon get used to feeling like shit all of the time and forget how good/energetic/strong you felt while training.

I reached it yesterday, in 7 weeks w/o stalls. Seems fast, but I did SL5x5 for 2 months earlier this year (mar-may) and almost achieved it, reaching 97.5 w/ a few stalls, then stopped when the climbing/cycling season came in.

Current stats:
BW: 150-3lb
Sq: 225lb
Bp: 160lb
OHP: 105lb
Dead: 235lb
Pullup: 20lbx10x5
Dips: 32.5lbx10x5

Deadlift is pretty far behind though, need to start doing that more often.

I've been doing 5X5 since May and my current PR for squat is 3X5X235 at a body weight of ~195. I'm getting close but still haven't gotten to 1.5XBW.

8 weeks, but I'd been lifting almost two years prior to SL 5 x 5.

This routine crushes any body part split I've ever tried.

The biggest variable in all of this is what weight you start at. I followed a Bill Starr 5x5 program, and I got the impression you were meant to start at a weight that was quite a bit of work to move around.

I had never done squats my entire life until i started the 5x5 and it took me 13 weeks to get to a 1.5BW squat. I injured my knee within that 13 week span though, took a week off and did a small deload when i came back. I lost an additional 10 pounds from the program, so my 1.5BW squat is based off of what i currently weigh and not at what i started at.
