I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

My gym is a bit on the pricy side, $75/month with slight discounts for multi-month. But it's never crowded to the point of inconvenience, and it has a deadlift platform, two power racks, and 2 or 3 squat racks. Quads Gym on north Broadway in Chicago.

Sadly, I am moving to another neighborhood (ravenswood) in February, and the only gyms I've been able to find are curves (women only), a community center that I need to check out (but my guess is that it's crowded, and that they probably don't allow deadlifts and probably don't have a good setup for squats), or a place that's a couple of miles away and definitely draws the poser/jackass crowd and the women that put on makeup to work out. They have a DJ for crying out loud. There is also an actual crossfit gym in the neighborhood, but I don't think I'm exactly ready for that...

I may continue to go to quads, but it's far enough away that I'd either have to take a 20-30 minute train ride, or drive, so excuses may start to pile up.

Sucks.

It's a one bedroom condo, so no place to put a home gym, either.

5 pounds (8 dollars?) a year at the college gym ;) It has some cardio machines, two power racks, lots of weights and hardly ever any queue.

I live in Vancouver, Canada, pay CAD$30.00/month in a small gym, but can only go between 9am and 5pm, I could pay the full fee, $40 and use it from 6am to 9pm. They have showers but that's it. I like it because is almost empty, close to home and no attitude from staff or patrons.
I could get a lot more if I decided to go to a Community Centre, however the closest one is always very busy,

I love being student.

I go to Sherbrooke university, in Canada and my membership is 100 for 8 months so roughly 12,5$ CAD a month. Cheapest I have seen around! Others gym in sherbrooke and montreal are around 30$ CAD a month.

I feel like going to the gym is free for me!

NT$6000 a year = US$180 a year or US$15 per month, but it is basic.
The fancier gyms will charge US$25-30.

Do crossfit, if you just training to train do it. You may not be "ready" but just jump on in you'll be fine

Yep, me too! Free gym at the university I go to, plus it's open 24/7 so I can train whenever I want.

I paid NZD $245 for a 12 month sub at the Uni Rec centre, student rates. That's US $130. Not a bad facility either. Three racks, plenty of bars and old iron weights, cardio room, and an endless pool.

In a nice coincidence of cosmic circularity, the weights room is in the same building that used to house the Wailing Bongo, the student pub in which I first started to hone my drinking skills, at the ripe old age of 16, four years under the legal age. Strangely enough, the bar was closed down by the cops who knew as well as anyone how easy it was to get in underage.

Home gym here, just under $2000 for equipment. Cage, squat/press/bench press rack, two benches, two sets of 260# weights, 3 Oly bars, hip sled, a set of DB's up to 45#, a set of BowFlex SelecTechs, and a pull-up/dip station. I love Craigslist!!

Home gym as well.
Home made adjustable squat stands = free
310 lbs in non-Olympic style plates (some free, most bought at $0.50 Can/ lb) = $130
7' non-Olympic bar ( used, 20 lbs) = $20
5' non-Olympic bar (15 lbs) = free
Adjustable bench (used) = $35
Doorway Chinup Bar = $35
Home made parallel bars for dips = $60

Total = $280 (give or take) I never have to pay again, at least until I can afford to move up to Olympic bars and weights, at that point I should be able to recoup my investment. Maybe a power rack in the future, in which case the squat stands will become OHP stands only.

Best time of year to get used equipment is right now in February. Most fitness resolutions are broken by now, so the brand new equipment is there for half price. Check your pawn shops and newspapers/Craigslist.

EXACTLY!!! I bought my last full set of Oly weights and 7' Oly bar with a new bench off of Craigslist for $100. And I just last week or so got a NEW Oly bar for $40.

My gym is $19USD a month, with a 1 year contract.

I would love to have a home gym, but that won't happen until I buy a house (hopefully this year), or move into a different apartment (unlikely, as I really like my current apartment)

You lucky people :(

My gym is pretty much the only one in Qatar with free weights (no power rack, just a standard dumbell rack for squats) so I'm stuck for choice. At the moment, I pay QR600 / month, which translates to $165 / GBP 115 / EUR 131. [my keyboard only has the $ sign, btw :) )

GBP 115 a month!!!!! WTF!!!! Wouldn't it be worth investing in a power rack at home. Even if you can't buy one there, try Dubai and get it shipped - you'd probably be saving money after a year.
