I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

The nature of my job means I have to be willing and able to relocate at short notice (4 days if I'm lucky!) and under differing circumstances. For example, I've just found out that from the end of March I am moving to Ireland, but on a 2:1 (bachelor) basis - meaning we have to find somewhere for the wife to live in England or Ireland.
Besides, with the quality of buildings over here, a power rack would probably end up going through the floor! :)

at my old university I paid 100€ for a year, the university I'm now at is 18€ for 6months. They even offer a "normal people" membership for 41€/6months. a squat rack, 3 benches, enough weights and lots of machines...

My gym is pretty much the only one in Qatar with free weights (no power rack, just a standard dumbell rack for squats) so I'm stuck for choice. At the moment, I pay QR600 / month, which translates to $165 / GBP 115 / EUR 131. [my keyboard only has the $ sign, btw :) )

Do many people go to the gym? What about the locals or is it just expats using it?

It's mainly locals - the problem being that to the locals here, that amount is mere pocket money. Most of them are 17 years old and driving brand new Land Cruisers :? Not too many people go though which is how I like it, and those that do go stay in the confines of the bench-and-curl area.

The other options would be Gold's Gym in Doha (similar price, iirc slightly more) or one of the hotel gyms, which are again similar in price. But in those other gyms, several days a week are for women only, and you can only use the gym at certain times.
This gym is men only (strict Islamic country, remember!) and open 6 days a week til late :)

€ 40,00 monthly in Portugal, unlimited. Expensive though, since the is no squat rack, either in my gym nor in any gym within a radius of 50km or more. (€ 35,00 is 3 times a week; and € 30,00 twice a week, for a month).
35 y.o. / 53kg / 156cm
Squat: 61kg (3x5); BP 40kg (5x5); OHP 27,5kg (3x5); DL 85kg (1x5); BBR 42,5kg (3x5); Pull-ups (max.): 5
