I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Great post with good timing (despite the rain here i have been roasting so dehydration is a potential issue), i never new about the fibre requiring water to bind to.

Im quite lucky with remembering to drink water as i work in a call centre (im not one of those cold callers you all hate btw) so i need to keep hydrated for my voice and we have a water cooler for this purpose - and its very nice water too which helps :)

Back on the subject of the fibre and water for digestion, fennel and nettle herbal tea also helps - it adds flavour for those bored of water and the herbs also aid the digestion, so it kills two birds with one stone.

I read a book a few years ago -- maybe this one, I'm not sure so don't hold it against me if that one is quackery -- but it made an incredible point that I've tried to live by, and you mentioned it yourself Mehdi.

Drink water when you first wake up in the morning. It will wake you up faster and better than coffee, with no crash. Seriously. I never would have believed it until I tried it myself.

Now I always have a quart plastic bottle with 6-10oz water on my nightstand overnight, and almost always drink at least some right after crawling groggily out of bed -- and *pow* awake I am. Works nearly every time. He also recommended drinking some water before eating to signal the body to begin digestion. My guess is you wake up for the same reason -- you are telling your body to begin preparing for digestion, so your metabolism goes up, waking you up.

Whatever. It works for me anyway.

It's true about the alertness thing with water - I get very groggy when I'm dehydrated and drink gallons of water every day (I've just got very used to it). Your bladder definitely adapts too - i can win pretty much any urinal contest!!! ;)

Also, for those of you who like the demon drink, glugging back a few litres of water on waking in the morning is the best way to clear out the head and make you feel better.

The more you pee the more healthy your kidneys and urinary tract become too - it flushes them out (or something) but I saw a study showing that any drinking/throughput through your kidneys was shown to reduce the incidence of kidney disease (sorry it was a while ago and I don't have the link).

I understand wanting to mix things up, but I think it's kind of odd extolling the diuretic benefits of tea when touting it as a substitute for water. Shouldn't you be increasing water intake to make up for the diuretic effects of the tea?

How much liters green tea do you plan to drink a day? It's not that it's going to make such a big difference
