I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hi, guys!

I was doing SS-5x5 starting October till I was hit by a **** jeep in December. Gained 13 lbs during that time before leg injury but lost all of them not lifting until now. I am going to continue doing SS but to get my weight back quicker I want to try GOMAD this time.

When I was doing SS in the last year I was eating 3500 kcals in non-training days and 4000 kcals in workout days (3 times/day solid food and 3 times there were "supershakes" - mixed yogurt, cottage cheese, peanut butter and stuff). During that time I was hitting grocery store at least 2 times per week and it seemed quote often for me because I didn't have a car (and don't) and the store was half a kilometer walking distance away. (My bag was full - Deurter backpack - 30 liters)

Now preparing my meal plan for GOMAD it seems I will need to attend the grocery store probably each and every day in a week to carry 3-4 liters of milk and all the stuff (chicken, rice, veggies, fruits etc.). I think Berardi in his books and articles mentioned going shopping one time per week to buy all the stuff for the next week. It seemed impossible to me even not doing GOMAD.

How often do you grocery shop while GOMADing? And how does it influence/complicate your life? :)

P.S. I need to check whether my local grocery store has a delivery option. Want to see neighbors' eyes when they will see those 7 gallons of milk delivered (for a week). That should be a lot. )

Do you not have a local milkman?

It must be a british thing...

There is a house on my street that puts out about 25 x 4 pint bottles everyweek on recycling/rubbish day. They must make yoghurt or something, I just cannot imagine what youd do with it or how you would store it.

When I did GOMAD, I'd do one big grocery shop on the weekend but I'd buy the 4 litres of milk each day. The supermarket was just down the street and I wouldn't have the space to store it in my fridge anyway. The only mildly annoying thing was disposing of all those empty plastic bottles on recycling day (once a week).

If you really want something, you can find a way to make it happen.

I usually hit it up, as its a mile from my house and on the way home.

If need be, i bike there.

It really depends. I'll usually get 2 gallons of milk, and a bunch of canned vegs.

Is that still done in the UK?!?!

You only find milkmen in the States in 50s sitcoms and your dad's rambling back-in-the-day stories. Not that I'd mind having one, but as far as I know they were extinct around here well before my birth.

We had a local milk man back in my school days. We'd put our empty glass bottles out in the mail box, with a note saying what we want, and a little pile of coins to pay (and no one pinched the money!) This was stopped sometime in the late eighties, and we had to go to the dairy (NZ name for convenience store) to get our milk in them new-fangled cartons and plastic 2l bottles.

I live within easy walking distance of a greengrocer, butcher, bulk food store, and half a dozen dairies. I don't worry too much about stocking up, as it's too easy just to go get what I need for the next two days at a time.

We still have milkmen in the UK but its a very niche thing now. Most people switched to supermarket milk in large plastic bottles around 1990 I guess. I havent seen a proper milk 'float' (electric flatbed truck) since I was a kid. But you do see the odd milkman if your awake very early in the morning, I guess a lot of their work is delivering to small independent grocery stores now. But Im sure they still deliver to your door, especially if your gonna buy 7 gallons per week!

Oh, I remember that stuff, in the late 90th there were such cargo cars with big cylindrical tank on them fulled with milk that were driven around the district from one block to another, they used a handbell also. We bought from them once in a while a couple of years in those times but then stopped. Then I heard they were watering their milk a lot and such milk was a remainder from a milk sold to milk-products companies. Haven't seen them for ages, maybe due to some changed regulations in consumer protection area.
