I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

How's my diet?

So I just started Stronglifts 5x5 last week. I found out about it during the summer and I knew it was something I wanted to try once I got back to school. I'm living in an apartment this year instead of a dorm so I have control over what I eat. The only major factor so far has been money. At the moment don't have enough cash for whey. I have been trying to eat every three hours though. I'm 5'11" and around 130lbs, pretty skinny. I don't want to gain a lot of weight. I like my smallish figure, I'd just like to be more fit/tone/stronger. I'm not trying to be 170lbs or anything. Ideally I'd like to be closer to 140 or 150. Don't hate on me for this!

breakfast around 8am: bowl of special k strawberries with whole milk, 1 banana, glass of orange juice or water.
I know this isn't the best I can do. I'm not terrible partial to eggs either. What else should I add on here?

I have class from 9 to 12 so I can't eat at 11 like I would like to. This is a real pain because around 11 my stomach is grumbling and begging for food.

lunch around 12
: small chicken breast sandwich (white bread) with a few pieces of lettuce and a tiny bit of bbq sauce for flavor. 1 banana or 1 apple, serving of mixed nuts, glass of whole milk or water.

snack around 3: usually either fruit (banana or apple), cup of whole milk, serving of mixed nuts OR a can of tuna on 2 slices of white bread and a banana with whole milk.

dinner around 6:30 or 7
: pretty much the same thing as lunch. small chicken breast sandwich OR small chicken breast with spaghetti and tomato sauce, banana, whole milk or water. sometimes yogurt (yoplait) after as a dessert. I need to get some real yogurt instead of this sugary junk.

snack around 9 or 10: banana/apple, mixed nuts. Maybe a yogurt. water.

My post-workout meal is usually another chicken breast sandwich (Can you tell this is all I eat?) with whole milk & maybe some nuts.

I go to sleep around midnight.

So tell me, Stronglifts community, what can I do to improve this diet? Keep in mind I am fairly strapped on cash (starving college student, what can I say?).

Sign up for http://www.fitday.com, toss in everything you are eating and see if you are eating the right combo protein, fat, and carbs. Just guessing, but you might need more fat in your diet. Check out http://stronglifts.com/nutrition-101-definite-beginner-guide-healthy-nutrition/ It is a good diet to start with.

Learn to like eggs. I would suggest omelets if you do not like them so much. Load them up with meat, cheese, veggies. Anything to kill/hide the test of the eggs. Hot sauce works well for that.

UPDATE:

I decided to make a fitday account and tally up everything I ate on an average day. Since this is the first day I got it, I could only to today, but I eat like this pretty much everyday. How's it look?

How about fish for breakfast? Doesn't take long to grill a fish fillet. Some of the supermarkets (in the UK, anyway) do packs of kipper fillets with butter, which you can just drop into boiling water in the bag or pop into the microwave.

Yes, do replace the sugary yoplait. There's a recipe on the forum for an easy-to-make fruit fool made from quark and berries. Keeps for a few days in the fridge - I divide it up into plastic food containers and take it to work for snacks.

Cottage cheese is another easy one to add. A 250g tub of cottage cheese with some nuts or fruit mixed in is a nice snack. Last night I had cottage cheese mixed with chopped pecan nuts and fruit puree for my final snack. Use the low fat cottage cheese if you don't want to bulk up much.

An alternative for breakfast would be to have porridge instead of the special K.

Oh yeah I forgot to change the first post. I don't eat special k for breakfast anymore, instead I have oats cooked in milk with raisins. Also, I haven't had any yoplait yogurt in about two weeks.
