I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

How taxing?

Deadlifts. Just did 3x5 at 285 lbs. tonight. Needed close to five minutes between sets. Brutal, but rewarding. going to go to ramped 1x5 because it is just too much for this 47 year old body. Squats are next and nothing else (that I do) is really close to this two. Might put pullups in a distant third.

squats are the most mentally taxing, followed by deadlifts.

power cleans are the most physically taxing for me, then squats, then deads, then dips.

Mentally > Squats - for sure.

I look at that squat bar and cringe that I'm going to have to lift it, every bloody set. It's a real drag, mentally. I get a bit of that with the deadlift, but not as bad. The cool thing about this is that my CNS must get so jacked that Benching seems easy (mentally) and basically so does everything else. Whereas when I never used to really focus on the Squat or Deadlift, Bench would give me that nervous feeling mentally.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Squat, so I think that's the most taxing exercise for me. I really enjoy the Bent Over Row, I always gladly pull again even if I'm completely out of energy. So I guess the Bent Over Row is the least taxing on me.

I don't think that one exercise is more taxing than the other per se. It's about how you experience the exercise. The body and the mind are connected.

I'd put everything in that order as well right now. Powercleans are the exercise that I never really enjoy, especially for a 5x5.

Then you aren't using the exercise correctly.

Prone bridges -> Deadlift -> Squat
Not kidding. Do 3x2 mins prone bridges. I have to have something in my mouth so I can chew on so I wont scream.

Yeah, I've got to say SQUATS are my #1 followed by DEADLIFTS. The rest aren't even close. BUT, apart from feeling physically drained after them, I do feel a sense of "elation" unlike other exercises. Hence I enjoy them. Strange but true...

Squats and Deadlift on par for most difficult. I hate the bottom position of these two exercises, my stomach always feels like it's about to hurl or something. If you're going to include variants, I'd have to say Overhead Squats > Front Squats > Box Squats > Back Squats. I love how box squats prevent you from using any bounce/momentum to push the bar back up for the squat :)

Somehow i feel that exercises that work the Posterior chain muscles(back, hams, glute) and hit them hard are the most taxing for me.

There is nothing stopping you doing a paused rep, full back squat. Regular back squats can be more taxing on the CNS.
