I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

In your opinions, out of all and any strength training exercises, list the most taxing to least taxing.
Why are you squatting in the curl rack?

This could be an extensive list! :P

Anyway, for starters:
Open chain exercises tend to tax the body more than closed chain and explosive exercises or speedwork aren't usually as taxing.
Isolation work is also less strenous than compound movements and the amount of weight used in an exercise can also be a decent indicator. So Deadlift > Squat > Clean > Hyperextensions.

OHP is IMHO the most taxing.
Even if the weights are nothing compared to deadlift, OHP is the most difficult to progress on.
Heck, I can DL over 3x more then I can OHP.

Squat is most taxing. Deadlifts for reps 2nd most taxing. Then rows. Then all the rest.

I never felt like puking after oh press, definitely not after bench. But I did with all the above.

Maybe we need to take some steps back.

What is the definition of 'taxing' here ?
Mentally or physically ? Putting a burden on respectively your mind or your body ?

I agree 20-rep squats can almost make you puke  but I do not find this 'taxing' as in 'a burden on my state of mind'. It does on my body but that's why we train for the most part.
Besides, it takes a LOT of mental willpower to force your body into an exercise/sequence where you will almost puke. Most people will simply stop before it happens.
Is that taxing then ? I'm not sure.

OHP on the other hand, while physically less demanding when comparing numbers, is not going to happen that easily. And THAT puts a burden on my mind ;)
I truly hate that exercise knowing I fail most of the sessions already for some time (which makes the succeeded ones even more valuable). This only means I better get better at it, I know.

So it all depends on who means what when using the word 'taxing'.
I prefer to be called 'H' ;)

+1 on deadlifts being the most taxing

They are definitely the most difficult to recover from... can anyone here imagine trying to deadlift with the same frequency/volume as the squat?

Seriously! If I try and deadlift even kinda heavy more than twice a week I get eye twitches and don't feel like getting out of bed all weekend haha

I'm very inexperienced, but I vote deadlift.
Not stalled on it yet, and I'm only @ 105kg, but it's the only lift that has made me lightheaded so far. Weird feeling. My CNS must really be stupidly weak  But deadlift is the first to trigger it in that way. I can definitely see a 1RM attempt @ deadlift making you want to throw up after at the heavier weights.

Deadlift for sure, some of the stupid increases in weight that I did make me cringe when I think about how I felt for the next week.
