I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. :lol: But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

VERY good article Mehdi, that's what I have been advocating all along. People have been strongly disagreeing with me, but in my experience using this, food choice tends to make little to no difference following this method (unless the macro's are significantly different, like high protein vs high carb).

Very good article indeed.

I have one question, sorry if I'm being pedantic but in the article you recommend brown rice and pasta, I think in an older article you said eat white pasta, not brown, so which is better between the two, for weight-gain?

@Leanstrong
Thanks. I hope I stressed enough in the article that this isn't for someone who is severely under-weight, they should do GOMAD. Slow method is for people who already dealt with losing the skinny look, want to weigh even more and care about fat gains.

@kidsoftheblackhole
White pasta digests faster than brown pasta. I can easily eat 500g white pasta in 1 setting, but I can't with brown pasta. That and the fact that white digests faster, means skinny guys are better off eating white stuff to more easily get their calories (since they usually have issues getting meeting their calories). Brown is obviously better, but until you've reached your goal weight, better to go white. Since the slow method is for people who already are passed all of that, they should go with brown.

Hi,
Great article.

However I'm also a bit confused about carbs. 300g of carbs is 2100 kcalories, which is more than 50% of 4000 kcalories. Isn't that way too much? Did you mean 300 g of starchy food?

In that case, there is a lot of difference between 300g of pasta (1000kc) and 300g of potatoes (400kc). Could you clarify?

1g carbs = 4kcal, so 300G = 1200kcals. Where they come from doesn't matter.

Got it, thanks for clarifying.

Sorry, I was being silly, and thought it was 1g carbs = 7kcal :oops:

As for me - that is huge! Is it raw?
Wondered what sort of pasta does Mehdi buy/eat?

Here, in Ukraine, local pasta, I don't know, it is relatively cheap ($1 for 500g) but it is not that delicious to consume that much of it at once. I can only eat maybe 200g max at once (raw of course).
Italian pasta here costs a bomb (8$ for 500g - "Barilla"). Maybe it's that better.

Box of 500g raw white pasta, it weighs more cooked. Brand doesn't matter.

more when cooked, of course,
I just like to think that your brand probably doesn't save on ingredients like eggs or something and it easy to eat 500g cause it tastes nice, like candy :)

Don't know about you guys but the pasta we have here at home usually contains >14% protein ... (Panzani)
Boiled that would come down to below 10%, I know, but it is still noticeable.
(on average pasta will triple its weight after cooking, so I have been told this week by a cook)
