I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I am currently in week 4 on Stronglifts Programme, and I was reading this thread;

stronglifts-5x5-f24.html

All of you seem to have made a lot of progress in strenght and size. I progressed on my squats, bench, etc, but there is no difference in my body than 4 weeks ago. I eat enough protein and slightly under my maintance. (I want to lose fat :)).

What am I doing wrong, or will the progress still come?

Have you looked at your nutrition?

This is a good article that summarises what you have to take into consideration.
http://stronglifts.com/fat-loss-101-how ... oss-diets/

Combine your training with some HIIT and keep your carb intake to post-workout only (and then only complex carbs).
Also try keep to unprocessed foods as much as possible.

I was / am working on that. :)
But still, even if I don't lose fat, I should gain muscle, since i'm eating enough proteins. Right?

I'm going to cut a lot of carbs, you're absolutely right about that one.

4 weeks is but a drop in the ocean.

Did you take any starting pics to compare against?
If not take some now and then forget about how you look until another 4 weeks have passed - then take some more and compare.

Remember everyone is different and your body will change at it's own pace.

In my opinion though, things start to 'happen' more when you are squatting at least above bodyweight.

Checking your log you are 5'11" (1.81m) and 85kg bodyweight which is where I am.
I doubt you are that bad looking bodyshape wise.

Stick at it Ave - that's the best advice I can give you - it will happen as long as you eat well, rest plenty and lift heavy.
Don't compare against others as tempting as that is - see above - we're all different.

Check out this thread I started a while ago. It takes time and dedication. You will progress but you have to stick with the program.

Hey,

The worst thing you can do right at the start of a physical regimen is restrict your calories. Go for broke first, get some muscle, then cut back. I understand your desire to do it all at once, but it's counterproductive.

Second, muscle is like money- you need some to make some. The more you have, the faster your changes will come.

Third, if you are moving up in weights, then it is an impossibility that things aren't changing at all.

Hang in there. It can suck sometimes, but the payoff is huge.

@ Mouse

I've got some (unclear pics) but I have measured myself. :p There is no better indicator, because it can never lie.
Thanks for you comment. Since i'm not squatting over bodyweight, I hope things will get better. I'm not really bad looking, I just have man boobs and a big belly. ;) My arms are pretty OK though.

@ Cleave

Thanks for the thread man, I will read through it as soon as possible.

@ Americanadian

I must say, I'm not really sure what to do. At T-nation (I hope it's not forbidden to post such a site) they say that you should get lean first, and then do a clean bulk. Because when you are fat, you are not using the protein to their max expense. So i'm kinda doubting what to do. I guess I'll cut my carbs waaaayyy back, and put the proteins up.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'll stick with the programme, no matter what.

I just read you're article. Damn, you're just so right. I just got bummed out that I saw all these people making gains already, and that I just didn't..

Well fuck it, I know i can do better. First thing tonight I'll eat, then train, and than make some serious adjustments to my food schedule.
Less carbs, more protein.. Let's do this.

Your mindset is already changing a bit, but just in case, here goes ;)

It takes time. It takes sweat. It takes some setbacks (rest assured, those WILL come ...)
But at the end it is YOU against the iron. Nobody else.

Set goals, short term (easy steps in the beginning to get you going) and long term. The long term goals should not be easy so aim high. If you miss you will still be a lot higher then when taking the easy road.
No goals means no target means no focus.

Personally I have set for myself 2xBW squat as goal for this year. Will I reach it ? It's surely feasible but maybe I will not reach it. Look at it this way: even if I end up at 1.9xBW it is a heck of a lot more then what I am doing now.

Now get under the bar and squat ! ;)

EDIT: hmm... looks like I gave the condensed version of Cleave's post :)

I'm not an expert but stronglifts but I would consider taking some videos of your form. 4 weeks to body weight squats is very good and very fast. Progressing that fast you may have sacrificed form for weight. I have been working out for a while and after I broke body weight squats, posted the vid here and found I was only just going to parallel. I have deloaded and and am working hard on form. I can tell you getting your squats right makes a big difference. 85kg of deep squats is much harder than 110kg of just parallel - and my body is loving it.
Movement is the body's natural state...so don't stop.

Squat 60kg 107.5g
Dead 50kg 1120kg
Bench 50kg 77.5kg
Press 20kg 47.5kg

Changes to strength and physique become exponentially more apparent as the weight goes up. You are probably too strong for the current lifts to be enough of a challenge to induce immediately noticable changes. Wait until you are grunting and gasping for air when under the bar and then reassess your changes - I assure you when you get this far you will have much more faith in what you are doing.

@ Dylanamus

You might be right. I started squatting from 20KG (just the bar) but i thought that was kinda hard. But now, after 25KG more, I'm stil doing it quite easy. I think I underestimated myself. Thanks for your reply, I'm looking forward to those heavy sessions. :)

@ Again

Well, I'm pretty sure my form is OK. Everytime i squat i take a video of it, and re-asses my form. Sometimes I notice that i'm not doing them right (not parallel, I go pretty deep). Thanks for your comment!

@ Holvoetn

Haha, you did gave some kind of Cleave's version. But that's okay, I still apreciate it. 2 times your bodyweight, that's a whole damn lot! But I do have a goal, and that's raising the weight every training. So far I'm doing pretty good, so I guess I can be proud at that. :)

The thing I do like is that I notice that my overall fitness has gone up, I don't have troubles with my knees anymore, and I can bike for 15 minutes against an heavy wind without getting out of breath.

@ Mouse

Thanks. :D I cut some bread out of my schedule, and I'm throwing in more egs. Love those things, they are tasty. ^^

With all due respect, in my view that's not a goal, that's best effort ...
You gotta do better ;)

One year from now, where do you want to be with this program ?

Hehe. Well you are right, it isn't a goal. To be quite honest, I never really thought about it. I don't know what my possibilitys are in growth, or strength.

I would love to be like 95 or even a 100 KG's at 10% fat. (I'm 180 CM) I know it's damn hard work, but I would love that. But that is never going to happen in one year from now. :P
