Ideal for beginners?

Postby AchillesHeel on Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:28 pm

And when I say beginner - I mean truly a beginner. I've never lifted weights in my life, nor used a gym, and have only recently started exercising more often in a bad to get into shape.
I'm 5'10 and 10 stone (think that's around 140lbs), and intend to lose some flab whilst also building muscle - particularly in my chest region.
So, I've signed up for the gym and intend to follow this by the book if at all possible. Is it suitable for me, do you reckon?

Just start with the bar on everything except the deadlift. Of which you use 88 lbs, I believe.

Yep, that's why its called stronglifts 5x5 beginners strength training programme :)

Just start with an empty bar. (or 20kg including the bar if you don't have an olympic bar but make sure the weight includes the bar!)

Yes, this program is also for you. Or should it be especially for you ? ;)

Made that mistake myself once, never again !

Also make sure the bars you can use at your gym are all the same type. If not, make sure you know the weight for each of them (my gym as 10kg and 20kg bars).
