Incline bench press?

Questions about the StrongLifts 5x5 program.

Incline bench press?

Postby tazzy63 on Mon Nov 17, 2008 1:10 am

Do you all include it in for upper chest? If I want to should I alternate between incline and normal bench press between days or should I do both on the same day?

You cannot isolate the "upper chest". Also, have you read the program and/or ebook?

True, but the incline bench can emphasise it more but you need to have a decent basis of strength built using the flat bench before trying the incline.

There is no point trying to build upper chest muscle when you haven't got any lower chest muscle.

Build up to at least a bodyweight bench press for 5x5 before integrating any inclines.

There's no incline bench on StrongLifts 5x5. It's bench press & overhead press. Otherwise you're not doing StrongLifts 5x5 and responsible for every failure that can follow caused by bad programming decisions from your part. Just so you know what you're doing. Program works as is, no need to change it.
