I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Increase in Testosterone = Breaking Out?

first, if this is in the discussion section please move it.

ok, so i had take about a 6 month break from lifting and i had nice clear skin. face, chest and upper back are the key places. i am 25 so i thought my days of pimples were long gone. so after my lifting hiatus i started lifting heavy and doing squats which i never use to do. now i have broken out on my upper back, chest and some on the face. i always shower right after a workout and i even started using a body wash specific for this. anybody else experience this or something similar. so did the extra testosterone cause me to break out?

i do drink lots and lots of water daily. this bums me out cause i am finally going to be in shape. i'll have a physique i wouldnt be embarassed to walk around shirtless at the pool/beach. now i feel i have to stay covered up hide my bad skin complexion.

Moved to "Life".

Breakouts = digestive system that can't clear the toxins, so it gets through your skin. I think a possible change in diet coupled to you starting lifting is a bigger cause.

What works for me: lots of veggies (spinach!)/fruits, staying away from dairy products (cheese), zinc supplement. Clear skin.

Dairy - especially cheese - always cause me breakouts. Zinc helps with skin health.

i am not sure what it is then. cause i am eating healthier than ever in my life. whole foods, naturals organic fruits and veggies. i almost never eat junk food too. when my skin was clear in between my long working out break i ate really bad and had no break outs.

Short list of food that can cause reactions:
Soy, eggs, cheese, milk, gluten, tomato, shellfish, cabbage, brocolli, berries, nuts

Acne can be caused by increased testosterone levels too. But with a good diet & zinc supplement (might want to take an all in 1 supplement), no more problems.

my intake on all foods listed is less or the same as ever. i take one a day multivitamin for men that does have extra zinc. i narrowed it down to testosterone, i will give it some time cause it seems the worst of it has passes.

How much mg of zinc? anything below 30mg is wasted money.

I also heard the zinc in multivitamins is useless since calcium inhibits zinc aborption. But it might be just a statement by ZMA companies to sell more of their product.

Just make sure to have a few hours in between. If I remember correctly like 1,5 hours before/after consuming calcium.

bigwhat: I think I remember reading on a post that you moved from San Antonio to Houston. Is this your first Spring in Houston? The allergens and humidity are a booger in Houston compared to San Antonio. They can have a big effect on complexion. Move to the West Coast and work out there for a couple of months to see if everything clears up :)

this is my first spring here but the breakint out kind of started late jan. my seasonal allergies havent been bad at all. i would love to go train in the old skool gyms in cali, you know the outside type ones. oh well, i cant afford cali. thanks for the info, i will see if my break outs clear up as the my allergies do too. seems like some good rationale.

I was just about to post something similar but then found this thread so I will just say it in here.

I'm 19 and never had acne through my early teens. I was grossly underweight and ate very little and my skin was clear 90% of the time. Now when I started looking into weights and eat more my skin takes a drastic turn for the worse. WTF?

I now have more products then a super model, have been taking zinc for about 2 months and nothing will keep it in control. I even took drastic measures by stopping going to the gym and stopping eating lots of foods. In the end, I lost all my gains and my skin didn't improve that dramatically.

Am I helpless?
