I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

i'm a little skeptical of SL at first because i am searching of a program to help me in my basketball ability especially in my vertical jump and speed. i am a novice in weight training but have heard that olympic lifts, squats, deadlifts aid in vertical jump so i decided to try SL. After two weeks of SL, to my surprise, I have increased my vertical jump by an inch. idk if this is good or bad but this is done without plyometrics or even explosive lifts such as power cleans. maybe playing basketball on rest days helped also but if you are a newbie in lifting weights and want to improve in basketball then this program is worth to try.

EDIT: oh yeah I even gained 6 lbs by drinking milk and going to parties a lot so that means that if my weight were to stay the same during that duration then the increase would have been a bit more

Don't worry. Since you're a novice, probably the best way you can increase your vertical jump is to get your strength,
Squats weights relative to your bodyweight (example 100kg squat, 60kg bodyweight) have a pretty close correlation to vertical jump height. And you said you're vertical has gone up an inch already, keep it up!

Keep doing squats and lifting, and keep playing basketball and you will have no problem increasing it more. When you're no more a novice, that's when I would start thinking about including Power Cleans and so on.

At first, squats increasing your leg strength will help improve your vertical. As for me, I reached a plateau where my vertical ended up being limited by my explosiveness more than my pure strength (meaning, do more cleans/power cleans)
