I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. - Michael Jordan on Basketball, however it can be pulled across to this field :).

Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. - Michael Jordan

Showing off is the fool's idea of glory. - Bruce Lee

It does not matter where one begins, only where they end up.

I would rather make my name than inherit it.

Only by going too far can one possibly find out how far they can go.

I really liked that Henry Rollins quote in the SL ebook (?) about what the iron (i.e. weightlifting) means to him, if anyone remembers where it is please post it.

It's like my old boss used to say --

When I closed the door to the work van on my hand: "Only hurts for a minute."

When I had a 22 oz. estwing fall on my head: "Only hurts for a minute."

When an A/C unit dropped on my foot: "Only hurts for a minute."

“I have never met a truly strong person who didn’t have self-respect. When I see guys working out for cosmetic reasons, I see vanity exposing them in the worst way, as cartoon characters, billboards for imbalance and insecurity. Strength reveals itself through character.

Muscle mass does not always equal strength. Strength is kindness and sensitivity. Strength is understanding that your power is both physical and emotional. That it comes from the body and the mind. And the heart.

The Iron is the best antidepressant I have ever found. There is no better way to fight weakness than with strength. Once the mind and body have been awakened to their true potential, it’s impossible to turn back.

The Iron never lies to you. You can walk outside and listen to all kinds of talk, get told that you’re a god or a total bastard. The Iron will always kick you the real deal. The Iron is the great reference point, the all-knowing perspective giver. Always there like a beacon in the pitch black.

I have found the Iron to be my greatest friend. It never freaks out on me, never runs. Friends may come and go. But two hundred pounds is always two hundred pounds.” - Henry Rollins

This quote is horribly out of context but in context it does nothing for me. In and of itself however, this quote has aided me in the gym and in my life, whenever and wherever I have needed mental toughness and grit. Kind of repeated like a mantra.

"Be there no question of certain strengths. Know this intention. Forever stronger than all."
-Pantera, 'Strength Beyond Strength'

Also, one of my recent favorites:

Some might not understand, possession
Beyond your hands.
You recognize it, while some ignore it
Avoid the masses, you've got to belong to it.

Pantera is the manliest poetry.

Right on! This is how I feel when I'm trying to reach the power rack before the guy who wants to do curls:

"you've waged a war of nerves
but you can't crush the kingdom

can't be what your idols are. can't leave the scar.
you cry for compensation. i ask you please just give us...

5 minutes alone"
