I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

If you put 40 pounds on your bench, great. But if you're only benching 140, you still suck. " - Dave Tate

Well, I can do 16, and I'm 51 and I weigh 210. So you have to beat me or you're a pussy. And if you do beat me, you're probably using drugs.  -  Mark Rippetoe (about pullups)

Starr was damned strong, primarily because he worked as hard as any human being ever has. He was not a genetic freak, but his balls were huge, and he applied himself to his training like few people have ever done." - Mark Rippetoe

There are no shortcuts. The fact that a shortcut is important to you means that you are a pussy. Let me be clear here: if you'd rather take steroids than do your squats heavy and drink enough milk, then you are a Fucking Pussy. I have no time or patience for Fucking Pussies. Please tell everyone you know that I said this. - Mark Rippetoe

Actually, the best quote in any language is: "beter een gat in uw cultuur, dan een cultuur in uw gat". But that doesn't mean much in english.

"Being strongest pound-for-pound just means you can kick ass in kindergarten." - I'm not sure who said it first, but I think it was Ruben Kramers aka Phreak.

Inspiring Quotes

Postby Harsh » Fri Feb 29, 2008 5:19 am

I have been reading Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts, and some great quotes from book (not strength related though):
"Sometimes we love with nothing more than hope. Sometimes we cry with everything except tears. In the end that's all there is. Love & its duty, sorrow & its truth. In the end that's all we have - to hold on tight until the dawn."
"If fate doesn't make you laugh, then you don't get the joke."
"One of the ironies of courage, and the reason why we prize it so highly, is that we find it easier to be brave for someone else than we do for ourselves alone."
"Fate always gives you two choices, the one you should take, and the one you do."
"Sometimes, you have to surrender before you win"

"All those people that give you shit and tease you about your book, or art, or music, or whatever... fuck them. Fuck. Them. They aren't trying to do what you're doing. They aren't doing anything creative, or innovative, or challenging. Fuck them and watch how they change when your art succeeds"
I think it was Chuck Palahniuk.

"yeah me to, it pisses me off, worlds in westbank only has one squat rack and when guys have 5 lbs on the 45 lb bar i want to just grab a 50 lb bar and throw it at them"
A freaky huge/strong guy that played football at my school in reference to curls in the squat rack. When I first read this I laughed out loud for a variety of reasons.
"The game may only be to move a ball forward on a dirt field, but the task can be accomplished with an unshackled joy and its memories will be a permanent delight."
