I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Cheers RB,
I was impressed myself, while I was lying on the floor though I was a bit worried about the shooting pains in my ribs but they seem to have gone now. I've a real fatigue in the upper lats and rear delts though, which I don't usually get from the DL. I was using straps though as i can't hang on to the bar long enough to grind out 10 reps. Apparantly Stuart McRobert the "Hardgainer" bloke used to do 20 reps with 400lb and thought it the best wat to train the DL.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up (except the bench....bloody shoulder joint)

Saturday:
nice easy day today light weights to see how my shoulder will hold up to some more benching.
Bench 220lb 100 reps - took 21minutes to complete
Dips (no weight) 70 reps took 20 minutes to complete
Kettlebell swings - 1 pood 100 reps took about 10 minutes
Shoulder feels a little sore but it's a dull ache not a sharp pain so it might be getting better.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up (except the bench....bloody shoulder joint)

Monday
Press Behind Neck
w/u 132/10/10
176/3 187/3 203.5/3 224/3 235/3
Dumbell Press
93lb/8/8 70lb/10/10/10
Rope Row 5x10
Face Pull 5x10
thought I'd be careful with the presses today as my shoulder was still a little sore from Saturdays bench marathon. The shoulder feels better now after the pressing funny considering how the prevailing wisdom says press behind neck hurts the shoulder.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up (except the bench....bloody shoulder joint)

I was one that would have said that. But, I've been doing them, as well. I'm sure if I got my press as high as yours, I'd be doing much better on benching.

Tuesday:
Pullthroughs - 10/15/15/20 (full stack)
Squats
132/10/10
220/10
308/5
401/5
440/3
510/1/1/1/1
308/10

I was being a little more careful today as I'm breaking in a new pair of Do-WIns. Not sure why I went to 440 either, I normally like a bigger jump to my max weight as I burn out quickly. I didn't have my diary either and looking at that I should have attempted 520 for singles. I'll try next fortnight.
The Do-Wins are pretty good by the way, feels like your feet are bolted to the floor while you squat.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315
Bench 450+

Wednesday
Dumbell Shoulder Press
66/10/10 (w/ups)
95/8/8
130/5/5/5
Press Behind Neck
132/10/15/15/12/8
Face Pulls
70lb/10/15/15/12/12
Short w/o today due to work pressure and also feeling a little tired, really feeling the squats today I think that last set of 308/10 finished me off, I've been hobbling around the office today.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315

I feel your pain. I re-read the EFS book last night and discovered I had missed a couple of things in planning my routines each week. I've fixed it and will see how it goes.

Thursday
Pullthroughs
5 x10
Squats
132/10/10
220/10/10
440/3/3/3/3/3
Dips
100 reps (didn't count sets)

I managed to pull something on the fourth set of squats, I hit the rack walking the weight out and didn't get the bar fully under control before squating down. Lesson - pay more attention.

I've been meaning to look up your log. Just bloody impressive. Wow, indeed old world strong man. I saw some of your advice on deadlifts. Engaging the lats was a real bonus bit of info.

I seem to ask this a lot, but is that you in your avatar?

Also, I saw you mention at some point about a powerlifters mid-section. Full barrel vs 6 pack. In your experience, are those mutually exclusive? Can a trim waist and PL lifting numbers like yours go hand in hand?

I'll be keeping an eye here. Thanks for sharing.

@Gargoyle
The avatar is Paul Anderson pressing 405lb. I'm guessing that's not you in your avatar :)

To answer your more serious question, you can have a massive deadlift and abs but it's much harder than having just a massive deadlift. The fatter lifter has a leverage advantage and in the super heavies you aren't trying to make the weight which makes life a bit easier. A friend of mine got 17 reps with 495 and 1 with 740, he's got abs so it's definately possible. Very often though the structure of the midsection gets bigger and makes you look like you're fat but you actually can be quite lean, just check out pictures of Gary Taylor in the 1993 WSM.

Very true, but mine isn't human even. Yours I thought might stand a chance ;) Damn - 405 lb press. Shit.

I will look up Gary Taylor.

I am still way in the light weight league, but even in the four months since I have started this, I can see the 'overhang' of my love handles decreasing but I can't really see any overall waist reduction, so something is increasing. I could live with a 500 lb DL and abs :)

Thanks.

Saturday's W/O was pretty poor, I was due to do close grip bench, which I attempted but the pain in the shoulder was too much. A few years ago I would have ignored it and pushed through but not now.
Anyway I'm planning a new routine, again split over two weeks, but I'm dropping the bench for the next few months and I'm going to have a stab at the power clean and then the full clean and jerk.
I used to lift at an Oly club about 15 years ago so we'll see what I can remember from the coaching back then.
It's a bit of a shame as I was hoping the bench would continue to improve and I'd get over 500 this year but it looks like I'll be stuck below 450 now.

you should look up Andersons lifts and training he was a true strength legend, trained by the great Bob Peoples too. I've seen footage of him pressing 8 plates with hardly any layback and he got as high as 455 in the press if memory serves.
