I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I thought I'd join in the training log action and record my on-going battle against big metal things, gravity, poverty, and the aging process.
Me:
I'm 36 for another month or two, I'm 5'9" (same height as Elvis) and scale round the 17 stone/240lb mark. I've been lifting since about 1990 when I had the good luck to meet a powerlifting coach at University - I fell in love with the iron. The look of a barbell bending slightly in the rack just waiting for me still gets me as fired up now as it did back then.
Goals:
Deadlift 700lbs I have a photo of Arnolds pal Franco Columbo pulling 740lb and it looks like fun!
Squat 600lbs
Press 350
Bench - tricky one - I was shooting for 500 but I hurt my shoulder a couple of months back and can't bench much above 315 without pain at the moment. So I might just stop benching.
Chinups 30 reps - currently my best is 22 unweighted, but this varies quite a bit w/o to w/o.
Dips - 70 reps - my best ever was 51 in an inter gym contest the guy that beat me did 70.
I plan to log my training week to week rather than individual gym visits.
My current training looks like:
Week A:
day 1: Press - Dumbell Press - Dumbell Clean/Press - Face pulls/rope rows
day 2: Glute machine - Pull throughs - Squats (hev)
Day 3: Whatever : Bag work or skipping or dips, lots of dips
Day 4: Squats (for volume)
Day 5: rest
Day 6: Bench (for volume) - dumbell work - heavy tricep stuff
Day 7: rest
Week B:
day 1: same as week A
day 2: Deadlift (off blocks) - Chins (all hand positions)
day 3: same as week A
day 4: Bench (heavy - but not at the moment) - Dumbell work
day 5: rest
day 6: Deadlift (in rack) - chins - hammer machine pullover
day 7: rest
I'll stay on this for 10 weeks then back to a % based trad powerlifting mon/wed/fri type thing.
Male 37 - 5'9" - 240lb.
Deadlift 600+
Squat 500+
Pess 315
Bench 450+
these numbers will go up (except the bench....bloody shoulder joint)

Just trained Week B day 4 it should have been heavy bench but I decided to swap in incline bench instead and it worked a charm got 315 x3/3/3/3/3 easily enough without any pain.
So my new goal is a 405 incline and I'm going to leave flat bench alone for awhile. Hopefully the incline bench will have more carry over to the press too.

Monday 2/3/09
Abs (standing) - 5x20
Press Behind Neck -132 x8x8x8x8
203x5x5x5
240x2x2x2
Dumbell Press
115x8x6x6
104x6x6x5
66x8x8x10x8
Rope face Pull -
5x10
Tuesday
Abs (standing) - left short of time
Squats
132 x5x5x5
324 x 10
506 x1x1x1x1
405x1x1x1x1x2
Dips 8x10 (unweighted)
Thursday
Abs (standing) - 1x100
Squats -
132 x5x5x5x5
220x10
315x15
Dips 8x10 (unweighted)
Face Pulls 8x10 (superset with dips)

Well those squats with 315 today were a real fu@*ker! I was going for a 20 repper but I just burned out at 15, very annoying. I suppose I was a bit tired going in to the gym today as it 's been a hard day at work but I'd been thinking about 20 with a 315 bar all morning and actually looking forward to it. Maybe the weights are starting to get too heavy again for this type of training, but the 506 felt good on Tuesday not easy, but it didn't feel like I was been crushed. I'm due to hit the bench and assistance deadlift stuff on Saturday morning so I'll see how that goes before making a switch.

Squats
132 x5x5x5
324 x 10
506 x1x1x1x1
405x1x1x1x1x2
Just wondering Jim, You did 405 after 506? Is it because you thought you didn't get the volume? or is it an advanced tactic? I would like to know the reasoning behind this.

Thanks. 506 is awesome. You had nearly 4 me on your shoulders.

@ Guru,

well I wanted to get five singles with 506 but I wussed out of number 5 so I stripped the weight down to 405 and managed a few more. The plan was to get 506x1x5 then come down to 220x10x2 to finish so it's mainly a volume thing I just went abit off plan.

.....and another thing,

I've been so hungry this week I've just polished off a half kilo of roasted chiken for breakfast and my belly is still growling for more. Yesterday I ate a tray off eggs and a kilo of roast chicken and went to bed hungry. I think some sort of crazy sandwich is called for.
