I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I have never taken supplements beyond protein powder and like 4 NO2 pills when I was 21 years old.

I hit 3x5x185lbs today on bench with decent bar speed on most of the reps. Better watch out! I'm still not benching my bodyweight yet so I may have a small advantage, although your upper body seems stronger.

I think this is a good competition because I would've done 182.5lbs today if not for it. ;)

Good luck man! I deloaded my OHP at 130 a week or two ago, I was pretty disappointed. I'm almost back up there now. I find that good form is really crucial with heavy OHPs -- you've really got to stay close to your face and drive under the bar. I got myself on video and realized how much more I needed to focus on those things.

Thanks for the encouragement, 125lbs was HEAVY. I didn't sleep well last night either so, it's going to be a battle, I know it. It will also be the first time that I OHP in the cage with rails set up.

2/10/2009

Workout B

Squat - 235lbs. 5/5/5

Good bar speed. Nothing special here. I actually felt my butt hit my calf on one rep.

Overhead Press - 130lbs. 5/5/5

Good bar speed, felt light. I lost tightness on rep 4 of the last set and wobbled a bit, but locked it out and locked out hard rep 5.

Power Clean - 0lbs. 0/0/0

Diet

Kicked up carb intake by 150g, and I felt great in the gym, good energy.

2/12/2009

Workout A

Squat - 240lbs. 5/5/5

Good bar speed. Was able to get real low today, and I definitely feel the difference stretching made to my lower back rounding.

Bench Press - 185lbs. 5/5/5

Good bar speed. I wasn't as warmed up as I would like to be, but it still went well.

Deadlift - 275lbs. 5

Good bar speed. I changed up my arm/shoulder position and felt a lot more powerful from the floor.

Bah! I hit 5/4/3x190lbs on bench today. I gotta make it next time to keep the heat on!

"Good bar speed."

I don't like the sounds of that :P

Workout B

Squat - 245lbs. 5/5/5

Good bar speed. I started favoring right side for some reason, corrected it though.

Overhead Press - 135lbs. 5/4/3 MISS

Slow bar speed. My diet and sleep from last night were absolutely terrible, I couldn't Valsalva correctly because of bloat from Taco Bell. Gonna have to give this another go, very frustrated.

Power Clean - 0lbs. 0/0/0

Diet

I had McDonald's last night because I was too lazy to cook. I then followed up with a 1-2 haymaker of 6 hours of sleep and Taco Bell before my workout. I was bloated, irritable and weak on my OHP. I need to stay focused and keep my diet clean or I will have more frustrating misses like this one.

Gym Idiot of the Day

♦ Watched 2 dudes spot each other on curls using like 25lb. fixed weight barbells. Inappropriate yelling and squinting vs. actual weight. After that they went to the Smith machine, and asked me if I was using it. I glanced up to the 245lb. barbell in front of me and back at them and shook my head no.

♦ Same dudes were holding their arms out in a "T" shape, palms facing the ceiling holding 10lb. plates and slowing rotating them in the air. One of them took the opportunity to flex in the mirror after a set of these "exercises."
