I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I tried it yesterday, actually, and I liked the way it felt. I'm not exactly sure what it's supposed to accomplish, but I think I'll use it for a while...

Tried the grip, the bar tracked very well. It didn't feel precarious either, just better. Was a little harder to squeeze the bar though.

He came down from another local Chicago gym where he trains a small group of lifters. If you don't know who he is, type in "Ed Coan Deadlift" in on Youtube and be awed.

I talked to him a bit, and he said he's been having bad problems with his hip, which has severely limited his training intensity. And yet the man is still damn imposing looking. Can anyone think of a "retired" lifter who doesn't keep at it, in some way? It seems it always follows them into older age, in some form.

You spoke to Ed Coan!!
I've met a couple of WSM contestants, had a pint with Jamie Reeves, and Andy Boulton but I would crawl over them to meet Ed Coan. You are a lucky bastard. Can i have your autograph?

Haha, he didn't have much to say during the seminar proper, he mainly came in to bullshit with the gym owners and wendler. I just asked him how he's been training and whatnot, but he's mainly just trying to rehab injuries. I'd love to make it down to the gym in chicago to and train with him, he's been training a group of 4 or 5 guys.

Based on this post I switched to a false grip for OHP, and I have to say it's been miraculous. I had big form issues with it before because of my messed up shoulders. I had to lean back a lot and have my elbows pointed outwards in order to activate my shoulders, which resulted in some lower back discomfort. Thankfully no injuries, but I'm positive they would be inevitable had I continued to press like that.

Switching to the false grip fixed my form issues immediately. I can now apply force from the proper position (elbows forward, narrow grip, etc) with barely any backward lean. I can also push the bar farther back, making it possible for me to truly get under the bar with a vertical torso. It's just so much easier to peform a smooth press with a false grip for me, I never would have expected such a dramatic increase in form.

I deloaded 10% because it was a new technique and I wasn't sure how it would feel, but it felt so light I feel I can easily add 10KG to my press in a couple of sessions. It's as dramatic a change as when I applied the knowledge from Dave Tate's bench press tutorial.

I love these little nuggets of knowledge. :)
