I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hi all,

I'm on my 2nd week of a strict 5x5, and it is kicking my butt! Love it, though. Is it possible to guestimate what my max. bench or squat would be from my workout weight. I bench 150lbs and squat 170lbs currently during my 5x5 routine. I realize knowing my exact max may not be possible, but would you say I'm working out with 70% or 80% or my max weight? I'm sure the varies for anyone, but was wondering if there was a formula that would help. Thanks!

It varies a bit for everyone, much depends on the amount you lift, but also a lot of other stuff. Download the stronglifts 5x5 advanced excell sheet, it has as 5x5/5RM/1RM/3RM calculator, but it isn't accurate.

I've found calculating maxes from anything is pretty hit or miss. The best way to do it is go in one day, warm up well, get a spotter who knows left from right, and see what you can do.
The bands won’t make you squat big; check between your legs before you change anything. It takes more than a band to make you squat. -Chuck Vogelpohl
