I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Great box squats Kathy. 10.5 is low indeed for you. So great job on making 5x5 there.

Be patient with the deadlifts. Try to build the technique right from the first warm up set. Are you managing to keep the back straight at the time of set up & then through the lift? I think a video may be mighty helpful here.

Great bridges too. Weighted are real fun, isn't it? I upped my weight to 15 kg this week & it felt like a mountain on my back.

Nice workout Kathy. And don't worry too much about the back. I, too, like james, go back and forth with the troubling back. Always gets triggered if I don't pay attention to it. But that's just part of the training, I guess. So, keep it up! And great progress!

@James: Thanks so much for the encouragement. Since having children, I have lost all patience, even for myself.

@Guru: I am LONG overdue for videos-I just need to open up my wallet to buy a camera w/video function. My old one died, I upgraded to a DSLR but no video. Then I upgraded my phone to an iPhone that does not have video either. Of course, Apple just came out w/the new model iPhone that does have video. Gahhh! I am always behind in the technology department.
And Guru, you must have one iron strong core to hold 15kg up! I'm only up to 8kg and I'm shaking like a leaf, watching the time tick by, wishing it would hurry up!!

@Zizzy: Thanks!

I was supposed to workout w/the trainer tonight and boy was I happy to find out that she had rescheduled and that I forgot. I was SO tired driving there...was getting ready to beg her to go easy on me.

I think I'm tired from this mornings workout. My arms and legs feel like jello tonight.

Hang Cleans
45lbs 2 x 10 Smacked my clavicles good a few times and my hands were on fire! Big calluses coming up...so feminine

Bear Complex
45lbs 1x10
50lbs 1x10
55 1x10
60 1x8 Was going to cry if I did 2 more. There's no crying in the weight room!
55 1x10
50 1x10
45 1x10
I know I didn't really do these like you're supposed to. Have to read up on the right sequence of reps/sets and try to time myself next time as these were certainly NOT breaking any speed records. This was my first time so I was just playing around.

My hat's off to all who do front squats. I found them annoying-wrists were sore, didn't like being so upright doing a squat. Guess I would get used to them if I had to.

Found that the Bear was less painful if I didn't stop to breathe/gasp for air. Once you stop, the pain sets in!

Yes. Either that or I'm a bad mom too. This summer has been rough on the kids. I'm looking forward to some routine again.

Don't worry about the calluses. I have them and I grow more fond of them each day. Besides you are the only one who can define feminine. No one else is allowed to define that for you.

Nice work on the Bear.

FYI it's ok to cry just don't let anyone see you.

The bear is tough and I agree about not breathing. I would hold my breath during the sets and breath and the end of each exercise.

That bear complex sounds, um, complex, and grueling. I don't know where you get all the energy for that workout, after being a mom to your kids, and everything else you do in your busy day.

Great workouts, I am in awe.

Wed, July 22, 2009

Kids talked me out of going to the gym-they just didn't want to go to the babysitting room so I humored them. Ended up going to the zoo instead and had a great time.

Workout w/trainer:
BW Squats focusing on form "Hips=Hinge", Unhinge at start of squat and push hips back!
Various exercises for hips, glutes, core, adductors, abductors w/bands. Amazing how painful only moving your leg 2 inches can be!

BP
45lbs 1x12
65lbs 1x5
95 1x4
115 5x5 :D 1 min rest b/t sets

Box Squats 14 inches
45lbs 1x10
95 1x5
115 1x3
135 1x3
160 5x5 NOW I am starting to feel these in my back & adductors in a good way. Thinking of my hips as a hinge is a helpful cue.

Just for fun 135lbs 1x10 Out of breath! How on earth can Dave Tate do 35 squat reps ???!!!

Inv Row (bent leg) 10x3 These are still so annoying. Going to try for 10 x 4 next time.

Dips w/34lbs assist 5x3 :x One set less than last time - probably should not have done that last set of squats :?

Step Ups w/25lb DB's 1x15 ea leg

Out of time for Rev Crunches - was just moving in slo mo today.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks so much for the kind works, Zizzy, joda and Barry! All the encouragement keeps me going on the days when I really don't feel like going to the gym. This was a bad week for that. Kids sensed I was weak on Wed. and they attacked  I succumbed :|

Barry, I have to do the workout to have energy for the kids and to take a break away from them

They love to look into the weight room and see what everyone is doing. The little guys ALWAYS ask, "Why you go gym Mommy?" And I reply, "So I can be strong." And they say, "So you can pick us up?" I explain that they grow a little bit every day so I am just trying to keep up with them - they think that's funny

Way to go Kathy! Looks like you had a great workout! I really get inspired by you.

Maybe I'm going to have to try those instead of the regular squats. Think it would keep me from taking nose dives?
