I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Damn impressive squats Kathy. I agree with what everyone else is saying. Cut down on warmup times and you will have more energy left for those working sets. Being able to squat your bodyweight is right around the corner!! Nice work. :D

I'm not sure on cutting down the warmup times really. If you are going to run 5K then doing more sets like that may be helping your endurance. You may stall earlier on a lower weight, but it may help with your endurance for jogging. Great work on them though! I only do 1 warmup set, I should really think about doing more.

Oh, and a big congrats on losing the BF!

WaHooooooo!! I just have to write this down somewhere....

I just did 5 x1 chin ups!! First time EVER in my whole life!!! The only witness was my 6 yo. And then he promptly did one with very little assistance

But I am just so happy...well on my way to 1 little pull up by end of the year.

@herf: I have found that I have to do A LOT of squats for warmup to really get my muscles warm and ready for the working weight. I don't even write down the OH squats, BW and med ball squats I also do. Jogging/elliptical just do not get me mentally or physically ready for them.

@Myscat: Thanks for stopping by! I am still trying to find the right balance between warmup sets and overdoing it. Trial and error...will figure it out eventually. Look forward to reading your progress.

Let me be the first to congratulate you on the chin up. It took me around 4 months (and a pull ab muscle) to get my first one. You may be surprised how fast you can get to a pull up once you get chin ups going.

For squats, I find for me that working on my long term permanent flexibility has really kept my squat warm ups to token. When ever I have to pick up or bend down for anything I squat ATG to do it. Of course everyone varies, but likewise, one or two reps mentally set me to move up to the next weight in the warm up.

Again, congrats!!!!

@ Gargoyle: Hmmmm...now you've given me something to think about. I have been a bit remiss about foam rollering and flexibility work. Maybe if I was more consistent with it, maybe I wouldn't need so much warmup before squats. I too have been squatting ATG for everything (ie weeding the garden). Hope that pays off.

@Liz: Thanks!! I was just SO astounded I could do them. And now I am a chinup junkie. I do them every time I pass the bar (it's in the kitchen doorway). Next step is to do them from a dead hang

Missed workouts last Wed, Fri for too many reasons to list. Will be running and working with the trainer this Monday. I am itching to be back to the weights on Wed.

I completed the 5k on Saturday and jogged the whole thing which was my goal. It was actually easier than I thought (I was really worried I could not jog the whole way, even thought about not doing it). Time was S L O W at 33:51 but I guess I can only improve from there. The next challenge is to continue to run consistently without the "threat" of public running pushing me. Might start looking into a few more local 5k's for inspiration. A 37 yo woman won with a time of 17:45 and she made it look effortless (we passed each other at one point on the course). Something for me to strive for :D

Having a great Mothers Day...the boys made my favorite breakfast (so MANY carbs, YUM), sent me to a massage and hubby is making dinner (filet mignon). I am a lucky woman!!

Congratulations on finishing your 5k run. It doesn't matter that you finished slow what matters is that you committed to something and followed through.

A massage . . . . . I could use one of those about now. I'm glad you're enjoying the day. :)

Congrats on the run. Now that you've done your first I bet it'll be easier to do others.

Sounds like you have some great kids and husband...glad your Mother's Day was nice. I've never had a massage but they always sound so wonderful.

Wed, 5/13

After a week and half off, was a bit scared to start back up. Can I still lift the same weight, what if I have to deload, etc. Have NO idea why this stuff bothers me...silly, really.

Squats
115lbs x 7
135lbs x 5
165lbs 5 x 5 This was supposed to be 160lbs - had an addition miscalc again. Gotta go back to work (accountant) so I can retrain my brain!

Rack Walk Out 185lbs - didn't feel bad really. Helped my confidence a bit.

BP
Starting to detest this lift as much as OHP.
45lbs x 10
65lbs x 8
100lbs 3 x 5
95lbs 2 x 5 WTF???? I can do a few chinups - why can't I get this 5x5 comfortably?

IR 5/5/3 Completely distracted at this point. See below.

Push Ups 6/8/5 Not paying attention.

Rev Cr. Ran out of time.

So, not awful after time off.

I was completely distracted by the guy squatting 405lbs with perfect form a few feet from me. I have never seen a heavy lift like that in person, only on TV. All I can say is WOW! My jaw was in my lap. I have a new appreciation for the discipline that it must take to reach that level (I am guessing it was about 2 x his BW).

I've done the same thing. I work with numers all day long (bookkeeping) but I can't add plates correctly. If I had an adding machine I could.

Great progress Kathy. It's those bodyweight lifts that are the most humbling, but also the most rewarding. Keep at it! As for the young fella, sounds like an opportunity to getting started down the right track early!

My daughter is already begging to work out with me. She'll be 9 in July. I don't think the gym here will let her but when we move the gym in Tennessee will allow her to work out with me in the weight room when she is 10.

Currently both my kids like to do squats, pushups and shoulder dislocations with me. We also do pull ups at the playground.

Great Wednesday workout Kathy. Your squat and bench numbers are great...keep it up! I also have trouble some days getting the correct weights on. My husband can tell me what plates to use in 1 sec, but it takes me forever to figure it out.

Love the pict of the kiddie bench!
