I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

117.5lbs 5, 4 OK, how can 2.5 tiny lbs make that big of a difference?! I couldn't even unrack it. Went looking for the trainer to get a handoff and spot but he was nowwhere to be found. I didn't have confidence in the rest of the clientele in the weight room at the time so I just lowered the weight.

Of course, as soon as I was done, the big burly guys AND the trainer showed up  Just figures!

It's amazing how a small difference in weight can add up to a big differance in effort. But at least you go one set out and almost two! Why are the burly ones never there when you need them?

Kathy,
Seeing where you started off from, I am so glad to have found your log (pointed to me by elgon).
I am starting out with the same numbers you did albeit with nearly absolutely no knowledge both on dieting and lifting weights.
Even an empty bar has me worried.
But looking at this last page as compared to the 1st, I am motivated big time.
Thanks for having it :)

@X:
Why are the burly ones never there when you need them?

Excellent question, X! Yesterday was OHP (where you don't need a spot) and there were 2 burly guys and a trainer the entire time I was in weight room!

@Guru:
Do you think you could've got the bench fi you could find the spotter for a hand-off?

Hi Guru. I think I could have gotten 3 reps for the remaining 3 sets, maybe 4. We'll see on Friday when I try again. As soon as I get there, I'm going to track the trainer down and get him into the weight room. I may also lower the pins on the bench rack and see if that enables me to unrack. Didn't think about that until I got home that day.

@Mouse: I like to provide some entertainment

@katja: This was pretty alien to me too. I was glad to see they weren't there yesterday. There have even been a few "Praise the Lords!" and "Praise His name!" exclaimed loudly. Felt like I was at a place of worship! I, on the other hand, am generally cursing under my breath "Get that damn bar UP!"

Hi mikii! Thanks for stopping by my log. Funny coincidence...I was just reading Elgon's log last night and was envious of all his nights out and about. Made me reminisce about my pre-kid days. He and CoryK always sound like they are having a lot of fun!

No worries about an empty bar. If that is too heavy, see if your gym has some lighter bars. The YMCA I go to also has these padded black bars at 24lbs and 36lbs. I use them all the time to warmup or to try a new exercise. But, I bet you will be able to use the oly bar.

Atypical1 (James) summed up this lifting stuff the best (for me anyway). It's all about consistency and intensity. Go to the gym even when you don't feel like it. Just keep going. And when you're there, lift the best that you can w/as much power as you've got that day.
Happy Lifting!

Treadmill: 1% incline, 29 mins, 2.21 mi
I figured that since I am not squatting or deadlifting, I may as well do another 5K race so let the training begin!

OHP
45lbs 1x8
55lbs 1x5
65 1x3
75 1x3
77.5lbs 4x5, 1x4 Arghhhh!! Stupid bar would NOT go past my nose on the very last rep. Try again next week.

Sumo Deadlift (just messing around)
65lbs 1x5
95 1x5
115 1x5
Back still hurts when I do these.

Neutral grip pull up, 70lbs assist, trying for 10x4, beat 27: 4x4, 6x3 = 34 Yay!

Single leg DL on upside down BOSU: 1x10 12.5lb DB's, 1x10 15lb DB's

GM's: 2x10 45lb

I owe prone bridges. Have to remember to do these today!

Congratulations Kathy, you will get that 77 pound OHP next time! :D

Going for another fall 5K, best of luck and good training.

Even without squats, your workout looks great. Hope your back is calming down.

I feel your pain and often wonder why so many love the BP.

Nice job on the OHP...much more intriguing and tougher lift than the BP  That's our story!

And we're sticking to it Sandi!
Although, I would REALLY like to bench the big wheels...it would just look so cool. It'll take me 20 yrs to get the wheels over my head (OHP) so bench press is my only hope.

Run/Walk: 51:09 minutes, 3.91 miles, Central/Springfield/South route, incl warm up & cool down.

I found a slick app for the iPhone called runkeeper. Using the phone's GPS, it tracks your route, mileage, pace and elevation during your run. Very cool!

Thanks for checking in Steve. If I don't go to the gym and do something, I'll lose the habit and then it's all downhill from there. Figured I can focus on my pathetic upper body lifts more. I'll tell you what...OHP and BP are WAY easier doing them fresh instead of after squats. Have to remind myself not to get used to this!

Have a good weekend....Go Giants!

BP
45lbs 1x10
65 1x5
95 1x5
117.5lbs 5x5 1-2 min rest, lowest rack pins (don't need a lift off at this height), bar speed slow on last reps of sets 3,4,5.

BBR
45lbs 1x5
55 5x5 Must remember to squeeze my back.

Dips, 34lbs assist, trying for 10x4, beat 35: 5x4, 2x3, 2x2, 1x3 = 33 Hmmm...not feel'in the love from dips today. Felt fine after BP but maybe I was fatigued.

Pull Throughs, 85lbs : 2x15 superset w/Seated Rows, 60lbs: 2x12

Reminder to self: Work core this weekend.

Quite tired today...moving slowly. Gave kids our old cell phones to play with. They forgot to charge the phones and in the middle of the night I hear, beep beep, beep beep - the low battery noise. Had to locate phones in the dark (fun) and charge them up. Took a long time to go back to sleep after that. Must train kids to turn phones off!!

Happy Weekend everyone!

Good work. Dips are hard after bench so don't beat yourself up over it.

Funny about the cell phones. That sounds like something that would happen to me...

I left mine on the dresser two nights ago and email was being pushed all night so it was vibrating. My wife finally whacked me at 4am and told me to shut it off....needless to say, last night I made sure it was charging in the other room.

Giants should be ok this weekend...but anything can happen. It's not on TV up here (Bills are on at the same time) so I have to watched it streamed online...
