I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Then, I have to explain to myself that I have absolutely nothing to lose by attempting a higher weight. What is the worst that could happen? I take some weight off, finish my set and learn more about my own strength. NOT so bad. And I can do all the sets with a higher weight most of the time. Of course, I am thinking all this ON TOP OF "squeeze butt, don't tuck pelvis, inhale and hold, elbows back/make shelf..." and a whole littany of other things to get ready to squat. It really is ridiculous

Kathy, you crack me up girl...

The Walkout...what a great great and useful idea...thanks to you and Guru for the info. Alas,I too, am afflicted by the "big and scary syndrome" And it IS ridiculous the kind of mental dialouge/diatribe that goes on....sometimes i've reached a point where i've told myself to just "shut up and squat"!

Via you Kathy, I did my first walk out today. 300 lbs and 320 lb. Damn that's heavy. But I am glad I did.

And I know what you mean. That big and scary bit. For some odd reason (maybe because the last workout I felt like puking) 250 on my squat had me nervous has hell. The single set last time was so damn hard. But I got under it today, and it just was not anywhere near as bad as I feared. Anticipation was the worst part.

As for the 'ridiculous' bit - better that than hurt.

I agree, g, anticipation is a part I struggle to overcome. I just can't believe I am "afraid" of inanimate objects. I guess it's not the objects themselves, but rather the potential failure they represent. And I do realize fear of failure is a bit irrational. Failure is such a great teacher, I really should embrace it more.

Glad you tried the walkout! 320lbs - Woooo, that's heavy. But you did it!

Been in N. Carolina visiting my parents. Great weather, lots of playing on the beach, boat rides, yummy food, etc.

Did a workout, nothing exciting except I got to use a power rack for the first time. Interesting, a bit cramped...I'm used to the openess of a squat rack.

A couple of observations -
I have visible quads!!! Wore shorts for the first time (have been wearing capris) as it was 90F outside and they had turned off the AC as the place was closing in about an hour. So, could see my legs in the mirror. Squats are rather effective aren't they?!

A sunburn (arms and tops of ears) is NOT helpful in lifting weights.

Anyone who works out in a non-climate controlled area (which is many forum members) rocks, IMO!!! It was SO hot in that gym-Ugh.

Sat, 5/23

Squats
45lbs x 10
115 x 5
135 x 4
180 x 5 - just testing how heavy this is
175 4x5

225lbs - walkout

Bench Press
45lbs x 5
65lbs x 6
102.5lbs 5,5,5,5,4 BAH!!! Hands too wide on last set. But have FINALLY figured out correct arm width. And it only took about 3 months  Mouse had a link to a video by Dave Tate which was very helpful. Hubby watched to make sure my elbows were under my wrists, and forarms perpendicular to the floor when bar was near my chest.
Knew it was "right" when I had my first DOMS in my pecs the next day!!!

Inv Rows
6/2/2 Bit distracted by guy doing power cleans nearby.

Rev Crunch
3 x 15 holding hubby's ankles

Skipped pushups and barbell rows as place was closing.

Awww, North Carolina. I used to live in Hickory. Where in NC were you?

Great job on the workout. Those squat numbers are just beautiful.

Glad you had a good time down here. I did some hiking, but your vacation is more my style for sure. Glad to see you are noticing results in your legs. I am not surprised given the weights you are pushing up. ;)

Superb Squats Kathy. You almost had that bench too - but never mind the failure, more important is to find the groove.

Hi pg-
Thanks!
I was on the coast across from Emerald Isle, small town called Bogue. The water is such a gorgeous green/blue color in NC. Much nicer than the brown of the N. Jersey water :)

I loved Virginia! Went to Univ. of Richmond and would have stayed in the state if I didn't have a boyfriend from Jersey at the time.

It's a very nice state. Nice mountains, nice beaches, ultra-high humidity, tons of history. I liked it, but now that I've been out west for so long; I'm an out-west guy. I don't think I'd ever live east of the Rockies again.

We lived in Hopewell. Our family spent alot of time at Virginia Beach and all over Jamestown, Williamsburg, Yorktown, Appomatix, DC. We ate that stuff up.

I can't wait for my boys to get older so we can explore the midwest together. I have never been but from what I have seen and heard, am sure I would love it. The lifestyle seems much more focused on the outdoors and more relaxed, friendly.

The mid-west or west? The mid-west - Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, etc. are very nice outside of the big cities. I still prefer west of the Rockies.
