I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

You should spend a couple of weeks with me and Shan challenging yourself to eat more than us at every meal, while drinking a gallon of milk on top of it. Throwing in some wrestling here and there. It will be as though your myostatin gene has mutated!

Your deadlift is looking good, dude. Come and get some chalk off of me some time. You won't slip mixed grip with that stuff and your sized hands.

Man, I drank 6 litres of milk over the weekend. That was without even thinking about it. Just thirst.

And I just ate a burger with the lot mmm Anyway, I was wondering, can you pm me the email address you actually attend to so I can email you from work when I'm bored :P (during my lunch break of course!)

11/5/09

Squat 70kg 3x5
Bench 57.5kg 5,5,2

Ugh, was feeling confident I would nail that last set but I just got stuck half way up on the 3rd rep :x

Ran out of time for the rest of the workout.

14/5/09

Squat 72.5kg 3x5
Press 37.5kg 3x5
Deadlift 110kg 1x5
Pull-up 5,2,2

Squats felt pretty darn heavy, a bit of goodmorning action on a few of them, but I feel my lower body is solid on these. More strain on my arms and shoulders than before, need to tighten up my back methinks. OHP deload from 42.5 attemps, still pretty heavy here, last reps of each set were hard. Deadlift felt really solid, I switched my hands around on mixed grip and felt I had more reps in me! Did the pullups with only minimal breaks between hence the low reps on 2nd and 3rd set. Not really making any progress on the pull-ups.

19/5/09

Squat 75kg 3x5
Bench 57.5kg 3x5 8)
Row 52.5kg 5,5,4 :(
Push-up 10,10,10
Reverse Crunch 3x12

Nailed my bench on the 3rd attempt, very satisfied! Was a gruelling effort though, the last 3 reps of the 3rd set were all hard and pretty slow. Squats felt heavy need to pay more attention to technique next time but I think I'll clear 80kg before technique gets too shabby. A bit dissapointed on the rows, first two sets felt so solid :(

Have added the pushups back in as my forearm didn't give me any trouble during the squats, got the same odd sensations as before but not so bad, will work it hard with the tennisball.

Overall, good workout.

Hey man, welcome to two big boy benchland! It is a milestone. Well done, sir.

I remember when I got to 60kg on the bench - it felt as hard as 70kg feels now. And that was like 4-6 weeks ago. With all your pectoral major real estate, you should definitely experience the same kind of progress. All 15 reps will feel like the hardest reps you've previously done, but you just have to push through it. Your worksets will never be easy again, but 60kg will soon become a part of your warmup!

Good to hear you're able to do the pushups. What's the go with 10/10/10 are you not going to failure? You should just get some bars like I've got. I haven't had any issues since. Apart from RIGHT NOW. I went to get out of my desk chair by lifting myself out of it with my hands on the desk and sprained my wrist or something.. typing sucks now! I hope I have the healing powers of wolverine so I can workout tomorrow.

Hey Leot, I know the feeling. I failed two times @ 55 kg on the bench, but nailed it on the third attempt. The feeling is - yes, I've become stronger - I do not have to deload just now. Congratulations.

Thanks for the support everyone, when I was at 40kg, 60kg looked so far away!

Dylanamus - when I tried out the pushup bars at your place they didn't really make a difference, it's not the wrist angle that does it, I often get issues on bench press and OHP too. I'll just keep working them as I said, I'd say they are something like 80% fixed now, very little pain when rolling and restricted to less areas, rather than setting my forearms on fire for the whole stretch of that muscle.

Looking forward to destroying the deadlift again on thursday :D

21/5/09

Squat 77.5kg 3x5
OHP 37.5kg 3x5
Deadlift 112.5kg 1x5
Chinup 10x3 (10 sets)
Prone 45,30,30

Squat was HARD this session. Got it all done but there were some very slow reps, 2nd set was easily the worst. Press also felt pretty bad, very heavy even after dropping 5kg after my previous attempts :(. Deadlift felt great, was tempted to up by 5kg but I'm in no rush and really need to put more focus on my other lifts, as the deadlift is progressing nicely.

Trying something different on the chinups/pullups that I read on here, will give it a go for a few sessions then do 3xF again, see if it has helped my slow progress at all.

26/5/09

Squat 77.5kg 3x5
Bench 60kg 3,3,2
Row 52.5kg 3x5
Pushup 18,12,11
Reverse Crunch 3x12

Squats felt WAY more solid than last time, slow on rep 5 of each set but will move up to 80kg at last. I had been forgetting to keep my elbows up and this had been making my arms and shoulders work a lot more than neccesary. Bench was heavy as hell, hope to improve this next time. Finally got the row done, will video myself next time as I am a little concerned about hip extension. Pushups were a lot better than before, forarm still troubling me (casuing me to cutoff my sets) but will continue to work on this. Crunches easy, will have to start doing the dumbell/lowering counterweight.

Going to do GOMAD (or rather 3L) for a week and see what happens, starting tomorrow.

Cheers Guru, this is actually the 3rd time I've made it to 77.5kg, but each prior time I deloaded as my form became pretty rubbish. Now however, I am comfortable moving forward from this weight 8)
