I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Today felt hard, I've been suffering with a slight cold of late and felt like I never really recovered from my squats. I havent stalled on squats at all since starting but I failed on OHP for only the 3rd time today. My training session went as follows:

Squats: 167.5kg 3x5
OHP: 75KG 5-3-0
Deadlift: 190kg 1x5

I just realised that I never reassessed my goals. My initial goals were to simple lift my BW on the big 3. I haven't quite reached it yet on my bench, but I will be hitting it soon without any problems.

My new goal is to Squat 200kg and Deadlift 220kg. I'm currently at 167.5 kg and feeling good. I haven't stalled on squats since starting Stronglifts. My deadlift is at 190kg and feeling pretty good. My old bench record is 165kg for 2 reps which I'm pretty proud of as I have rediculously long arms, as mentioned I feel I could get up to that standard again. I'm basically aiming to get my Wilks score above 300.

I feel that I'm ready to shoot for a 1.5bw squat, but the fact is I'm not really that interested in hitting 1 rep maxes at the moment. I just want to carry on with this beginners program until I can no longer make any workout to workout gains. Admittedly it was quite daunting at first to know that my 1.5bw squat would be 427lbs, but I'm getting stronger and stronger and gaining in confidence.

I'm beginning to look at intermediate programmes for the near future and I think I'm likely to do Bill Starrs 5x5 intermediate, although the 5-3-1 also interests me.

Watch this space :-)

Another program you might want to consider down the road is the Texas Method. You go for higher volume on Monday, lighter recovery on Wednesday, and then aim for some kind of a PR on Friday (a heavy set of 5, 3, 2 or even a 1RM). If all goes well, after that Friday, you up the weight for the coming Monday and repeat.

In the end, I think it's a personal preference thing which one you take. Whatever intermediate program appeals to you instinctively for whatever reason is probably the one to go with, really. That's my $0.02 anyway.

It's been amazing to see you chugging along - you're going to be at the top of the SL strongest board in no time.

An elegant fall down the stairs my brother!

For now i'm squatting with a kettlebell and a bunch of small plates in a ruck sack. As soon as the cast comes off I'll be squatting again.

Gutted, but i'll be back soon enough!

My deadlift will really suffer though, but the sooner I can get back to heavy squatting the better!!

It's my 5th metacarpal that's broken.

I'll be okay squatting after a while but all the other lifts, especially deadlifting will suffer.

Cheers guys, the cast comes off next week. I really want to get back into squatting at least! Hope won't be too long. I'm wondering how much to deload when I return.
