I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Hey,

Recently while browsing through the forums, I noticed someone had taken a screenshot of a food calculator which listed foods and a clickable option of how much of that food you were consuming, it then added together all the foods for one day and gave you a total for calories, Protiens, Carbs etc.. I've looked on Google and can only find very basic ones and not the complexity I'm looking for. Do you have to pay to get these? Does anyone know any good places to get them from?

The next question is the amount of daily carbs needed; Currently I weigh 212lbs and want to loose about 25-40 pounds (About 2 stone). According to Calculation I'm meant to have about 3360 cals a day, but I'm currently aiming for about 1500cals a day, the same as my brother as he also needs to loose weight. Obviously I'm a bit shocked at how I overlooked this, however I feel that doubling my calories when I need to loose weight is the opposite of what I want to achieve! I know this has most likely been covered before, and I realize what I'm MEANT to do, I just need a bit of confirmation before I go ahead with this!

Thanks,

Benedict.

Howdy,

Check this out for a food log: http://www.fitday.com/

As far as your question, I'll let someone else answer that. I believe, however, that 1500 calories a day will put your body in starvation mode and you will end up storing fat as a result.

Can't help with the first, but as HP says Fitday is good

Your body has a maintenance level of calories where you neither put on or lose weight.
If you drastically cut calories your body will go into starvation survival mode and start to store fat the resultant weight loss coming from muscle.
Hence the yo-yo diets - the initial reduction works - but you eventually put it all back on.

The magic ingredient is - EXERCISE

This allows you to eat more and put on muscle, which in turn burns up more calories.

Three ingredients are key:
Eating well
Resting well
Lifting heavy

8)
Good luck.

the best one i have found was one i used for my Nutrition class. It is called NutritionCalc. It is AWESOME It has just about every food item in it already and if it is missing something, you can just record it into the database and use it from that day on.

I like FitDay as well. If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, there's a free app called "Lose It", which has a good database of nutrition info. I sometimes use nutritiondata.com, but their search is horrible.

Hello,

Here is the site I use to track my food. It takes sometime to "tag" the items you eat, but once you have done that it is a GREAT help to track what you eat, your actvities and your weight.

http://caloriecount.about.com/

Just create a free account and start logging your food, if the data base does not have the food when you do a seach you can enter the data for that food and then save it for future use.
The other nice option to the site/account is the ability to write to yourself what you are doing/experiencing and on daily. Basic diary.

I too am over weight, I started my lfe style change on July 29, 2008. I weighted in at 269lbs, 6ft tall. WAY, WAY over weight, as of today I am 231, and my goal is get to 190-200 and fit.
I too thought "wow I need to eat way less to drop the pounds" NO,, NO, NO and NO again! that is the worst thing you can do.
The best is to log your food, exercise, and EAT!!! and then EAT some more. What this does is let your body know that it is safe to use some of the fat for energy that you store. When I say eat I mean "the right foods". For me I have found that I can not eat carbs, in any fashion, it just hangs on me. So I found a new diet "life style change" just recently and it is call the Anobolic Diet (found right here!). And it is a life changer for me. Each person is different, and some can use up the carbs better, some can not (me).
So that is the best I can tell you. Just log the food, listen to your body, exercise and eat. If what you are doing is not getting results, then change it, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!

Check out Nutrition Diary on the iphone/ipod. It doesn't include a database of foods (you create your own list), but once you've done that it's really quick at recording foods. (disclaimer - mate is the developer!)
