I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

lordosis question

Hi guys,

I checked on this link

http://www.stronglifts.com/lordosis-why ... to-fix-it/

and notice that I do have lordosis. I also notice that if I stand up while squeezing my glutes and abs, my lower back looks fine.

So the question is, do I have to continuously squeeze my glutes every time I stand up / walk? It's very tiring If I have to do it all the time... :?

Cheers

Well, the idea is that you should try to correct the muscle imbalances you have to fix the problem. Squeezing your glutes like that may just be you using them to overcome tight hip flexors, or making up for their lack of tone. So, no, you don't have to actively contract your glutes for the rest of your life, although doing that sometimes might help the problem.

Hopefully some one else with personal experience can weight in :)

By the way, just to clarify, I mean "tone" as in the passive contractions of muscles that support your posture. Your glutes may not have enough tone. I'm not referring to their shape or something or whatever it means in the concept of "toning exercises".

Thanks for the reply! That's really good to hear that I don't have to actively squeeze my glutes :)

i have the exact same thing and it bugs the hell out of me. i used to take tai chi a while back, and the sifu always told us to "practice tai chi 24/7". in other words, keep proper structure also out of the classroom, by elongating the spine upwards. imagine the top of your head attached to a string which is pulling you up to the ceiling, elongating all of the vertabrae, while tucking chin slightly in, and tucking the tail bone slightly in. it all seems like a lot, but the gist is to maintain upright spine, and not slouch. and yes opening the hip flexors helps, but if the slouching thing is still a habit, that has to go too.
so in other words, focus on elongating spine as opposed to tightening the glutes as you walk around all day should help, hopefully
