I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Squats to a 15.5" box -45/25/25/25

All went well with only slight discomfort.

Now I have to put on a suit then go to a church for wedding and then a reception. For an asocial, atheist, a-suitist, this is the worst day ever.

Glad to read your improved range of motion, LTL. It is annoying to rehab injuries - I find, anyway.

Hopefully, you went to a fun wedding reception w/yummy food and cocktails? Makes the suit more bearable!

The wedding was boring and painful. The reception was quite fun though. The food was good, and the cocktails were copious. And I actually enjoyed wearing the suit once I started getting compliments. 8)

Squats to a 15" box - 45/25
Squats to a 13.75" box (below parallel) - 45/25,25

I was about to do another set at 15" when I thought, "I'm feeling quite good, I think I'll try some at 13.75 inches." They didn't hurt anymore than they did at 15" so I went ahead and finished the remaining reps at that depth. Now I will work on adding a bit of weight and removing the box.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances I plan on being back at the gym NEXT MONDAY. And yes, I did feel the need to not only capitalize that last bit, but also write it in bold, italicize it and underline it for dramatic effect. I am that excited about it.

Hehe, we are all suckers that way.

Thanks for the comments on my log! Glad to hear that you're heading back to the gym. It must be a great feeling. :)

Absolutely. I just checked the date of my last workout and today is one month since I was in the gym. :(

I decided to cut the rehab short and let the leg rest up for the big day. I have been testing it out a bit, doing a few body weight squats. No problems. Since it's been so long I may take 10% off my other lifts, maybe a bit more on some. For the squat I think I will do the Starting Strength first day protocol (start with the bar, do five, add weight, do five, add weight, repeat until the bar speed slows down significantly). I am anticipating some discomfort when I get some weight on the bar, but hopefully it won't be too bad.

09/28/2009
Workout A
Squat- 125/5,5,5
Bench Press- 135/5,5,5
Deadlift- 225/5

I did the SS first day protocol for the squat and got up to 125 lbs with ease. I didn't want to push it the first day back. I felt an almost imperceptible discomfort in the sartorius, but other than that, the squats felt great. My form felt pretty solid, with a few outliers that had me twisting slightly, but I locked it down by the third set. I could tell the hip drive was in place and the knees were shoved out.

I did the same protocol for the bench, and came up to 135 lbs before the bar slowed down. Felt good, I can still get the back tight and hold it there.

I picked two plates for the deadlift sort of arbitrarily. It felt heavier than I expected, but still good. I need to watch my breathing, I wasn't as tight as I like to be.

All told, it felt awesome to be back under the bar. The only real bother was the smallest toe on my right foot. I injured it saving orphans from a burning building.... Okay, I actually slipped in water in my kitchen and slid toe first into the corner of my oven. It's quite purple and painful. It should make Power Cleans fun on Wednesday.

Nice workout LTL. It's good to see you back under the bar and pain free . . . aside from your injury sustained by heroic efforts.

Thanks for the friendly welcome back. It's nice to be where I need to be.

09/30/2009
Workout B
Squat- 135/5,5,5
Press- 85/5,5,5
Power Clean- 45/3,3,3,3,3

Squat still feels good, only very minor annoyance from the sartorius. More of an awareness of the muscle than an actual discomfort today. I think that all the work on the box actually improved my form because I really feel it in the hams and adductors now. I keep the knees out very far now.

I focused on pressing hard with the right side because I've found that my right trap is less developed and weaker. Must work hard on making sure I lock out evenly.

The PC was easy, I wanted to work on form so I just used the bar and did them from the hang. I need to get the elbows up about an inch higher.

I worked out at around 12 AM today because my workout partner's schedule conflicted with mine and this was the only time we had. I have grown to like working out with him more. He has become more serious and devoted so it's a good experience. He's coming along form-wise. He seems to take my directions well and wants to improve his form.

One last order of business. Today is the tenth day of the AD induction for me. I've decided to give it a whirl for at least a few months. I like it so far, I'm considering a long term run on it. I haven't had indigestion (something that has been plaguing me recently) and I feel generally better all ready.

I haven't had any of the side effects until tonight's workout (lethargic and weak towards the end). That may have been due to the late hour. I don't really miss carbs like I thought I would. I've been keeping a journal of my experience on it. Sort of an Anabolic Diary if you will. I haven't been closely tracking my intake other than the first few days, but I eat basically the same things and know that my carbs are within the limits.

That's all for tonight, I've got to catch some sleep.

I'm willing to bet the lack of energy towards the end of the workout was due to the time rather than diet. I'm glad you're finding the AD to your liking.

How was the toe when you were doing Power Cleans? ;)

I think so too, but it's tough to nail down a cause when more than one element has changed. It could also have been the time off from pressing and cleaning. Squats were fine, I didn't start running out of gas until the press.

I'm glad you're finding the AD to your liking.

Me too. It's kind of cool to have something new to muck about with.

Surprisingly it was fine. I've broken that toe three times in the past. The first two days it felt like a break again, but it seems to be just a sprain. Still bruised around it, but not much pain now.
