I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

hi guys.
i never noticed this but lately my bro started saying that my ass is getting too big.i assumed that he was just pulling my leg and keeping me grounded.however today my gym trainer told me too that my ass is getting big and a lot of ppl are ogling at my ass and laughing behind my back.though he gave a wack reason for it (said i initiate my squat from the hips, sit back too much and come back my driving my ass straight up ,all which according to him are wrong ways to do squats);and thus concentrating too much on my ass hence they are getting bigger.i measured my thighs ( while standing ,about 6 inches below the crotch region) and it measured 28 inches.i dint dare to measure my ass after that.i am 181 cms and i wear a size M or 39 shirt.i dont know but i guess this is not the correct proportion (dont know what else to say).
What should i do??

Such a dumb thread. Do you honestly think anyone here is going to say "yeah stop squatting"? We get it, you have strong legs. I also have very large thighs all around. My quads and hamstrings are definitly my strongest feature. The difference between you and me is I don't go on a forum trying to get other guys to say "hey man, that's ok!" I know its ok.

There's not such a thing as a "dumb thread", the OP is serious about the matter.

personally i'd say you need to stop caring about what others think. What you do should be for your own satisfaction.

On a side note, as the weight you're lifting are still relatively light i'm guessing you're upper body has not yet developed to its potential. Over time as you lift heavier, you should see more upper body development and balancing out overall to the desired "X" shape body.

My ass has also gotten huge. One more reason to increase upper body mass to even it all out ;)

I started strong lifts 5x5 along with following the 8 nutrition rules about 6 weeks ago. So far I've put on a bunch of muscle and lost 10 lbs to boot. The funny part is, initially my pants started getting more and more loose to the point I was looking around for my old belt.

The other day I noticed my pants weren't falling down anymore, they were getting hung up someplace in the back. It turned out my new glutes saved me from having to replace all my pants (for now).

OP: Based on what he said about squats, I'd say your gym trainer knows very little about strength training, and so also has a different idea of what a man's body should look like.

The fact is, your ass is a muscle, and an important one. It is instrumental in pretty much everything. Being strong, whether it is in the squat, deadlift, OHP or even bench press, requires a strong posterior chain (ass + hamstrings). Making the PC strong does involve making bigger.

Now, you could stop squatting, which may make your ass shrink. But you must know that smaller = weaker.

My advice: Ignore your brother. Brothers will always find something to give their bros grief about. Ignore your trainer. He is ignorant, and you will soon be much stronger than him, if you aren't already, even if you can't fit into his skinny jeans. If people are really laughing at you behind your back, and it's not some bullshit from the dickhead trainer, get the fuck out of that gym and go find a gym that takes strength training seriously.

And don't measure your ass. It will just feed your insecurity, and there's really nothing you can do about it. Like caveman101 said, work hard on building an impressive set of shoulders, or chest, or back, so people won't even notice your ass.

thank you everyone for the suggestions.i always knew that my trainer knows nothing and i use him just for spotting my squats since the gym doesn't have a power rack and i have to manage using the stands they have for OHP's.and i never said anything about giving up squats.i love doing squats and deadlifts, always have and always will.it's just that its the ppl around you who point out changes in you, positive and negative.and everyone who i've met has said that my upper body is getting denser while my lower body is getting bigger.that's why i posted this thread.there's a marked difference in the way my body is developing.
my upper body is more ripped and i already see the deltoids joining the arms and all three heads of triceps along with traps and a few other upper back muscles.but it's the opposite with the legs.anyways as you said, maybe my upper body will catch up as the weight increases.

I agree with other responses that your brother/trainer seem pretty ignorant. The way you describe your squat technique sounds like you have great form. There is also nothing wrong with a man having a strong ass. I do not think most women want a weak scrawny guy. When I think of a strong person, I see strong legs and everything that goes with it. As a woman myself, I like it (as do most of my friends) when a guy has manly "curves". It's hot. Keep squatting. Like mjh said, find a new gym that knows something about strength training and do not think twice about what ignorant people squabble about.

My ass is big and i get nice comments;D i think they're just laughing cos they're jealous, be proud of who you are and what you look like, im sure you look fine, and anyway your upper body will catch up as you increase and then you'll have people "laughing" at your massive pecs and bulging arms;D;)

I will apologize for my previous reply in this thread. If you are truly affected by the comments from your brother and trainer, I suggest you have a change of mind. Only you know for what you are striving. If pure strength is your goal, you must come to accept that your glute size will increase accordingly.

However, I suggest you do not fall into the trap of "hating" other people who train differently than yourself. I use the word hate for lack of a better word. Many people on this board seem to be under the impression that the only way to train is to lift the heaviest weight possible, but I believe this is naiive. Many different training styles exist and rather than get angry at people who laugh at you for lifting for strength rather than physique, I believe you'll be better served refocusing that energy into yourself and your own training.

I use to get really upset when I a guy would delay my workout by curling in the squat rack, but now I ignore that feeling and simply wait until the rack is free. I can't be bothered to waste energy that can be refocused. The poor guy probably is misinformed and truly thinks that the extra curls will work for him, and maybe they will. The guy isn't stupid or dumb, he simply has different goals.

Thanks for the mea culpa lcjackson.

I agree with what you wrote, but I think it's worth pointing out that no one is hating on the trainer for his goals or methods. We are criticising him for being rude and giving bad advice.
