I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I can increase my squat by 40 pounds in 1 month? As in 40 pounds of weight if I am training for my max (going for failure?)

I'm not trying to hang off of the "failure" thing, but what I don't understand yet is if you start with less weight than you could handle (as in stronglifts), then yes, of course you will increase the weight much more over a month. But what gets me is that most of the weight you are increasing by is weight you could be handling earlier on anyways. I don't know :S

I'm honestly going to finish why I am doing for the the last 3 weeks, then I will probably try this out and see.

And yeah, prior to the last 3 weeks, my working out has been sporatic and unco-ordinated for the last year. I only recently started setting it straight.

lol this thread got way expanded beyond what i thought it would, and yea, it is has started to feel way off topic of StrongLifts.

On Strong Lifts squat increases by over 60 pounds a month, given 15 pounds a week gain and 4.33 weeks in a month.

You getting enough sleep? Just about as important as food.

I mean you can take a very heavy 5x5 weight and put at least 40lbs on it. 40lbs assumes you stall a few times. When you increase your 5x5 weight by 5lbs each workout for 3 workouts / week for four week that's ideally 60lbs.

I'm not trying to hang off of the "failure" thing, but what I don't understand yet is if you start with less weight than you could handle (as in stronglifts), then yes, of course you will increase the weight much more over a month. No, you increase the weight past what you previously could do. For example, I remember going through a month where every single workout consisted of very heavy squatting, not just lighter weights that I could already do, and poundage was increased workout to workout. That's how you get stronger. You progressively add weight. Sure you can add 15lbs every month, but you can also add 40lbs at your stage.
