I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I see you're from San Diego, which I understand to be a good place for carne asada. Man, I wish there were decent Mexican restaurants in NZ.

Yesterday's food stats:

Calories: 4050
Protein: 350g (36%)
Fat: 192g (42%)
Carbs: 228g (22%)

Dinner was 400g of chicken breast (accounting for a lot of that protein!) baked in a tomato and basil puree, with steamed capsicum, zucchini, and broccoli.

Thursday 5 November, 2009

Happy Guy Fawkes Day, not that there's much of one these days.

Squat
20kg, 2x5; 60kg, 1x5; 80kg, 1x3
90kg, 5x5

OHP
20kg, 2x5; 30kg, 1x5
35kg, 5x5

Deadlift
60kg, 1x5; 90kg, 1x5
125kg, 1x4
90kg, 1x5

shit. Form was ugly and last rep was stuck to the floor. Annoying, because I've done much better than this before. But, I won't freak out, just write it off to not deadlifting consistently lately.

Chin Ups
no band: 2*
blue band: 5/4*/4
(* meaning an almost rep- face to the bar, but chin not over it)

Iso Push Ups and BTNPA superset
Isos- 3x30sec
BTNPA- 3x20

Starting to get warm, and with some rain it's pretty humid. Going to be sweating like a [insert name of something that sweats a lot here] soon.

Also had a guy come up to us to ask if we were doing the 5x5 program from stronglifts. He was on his second workout or so. Told him to start a training log, I hope he shows up.

I see that you're holding the squat weight quite comfortably now. What's with the deadlift?

Yep, squats are going well, deadlifts not so much. I think it's just being out of the groove, and I'm sure I'll get it back again. Stay tuned.

Nutrition stats for yesterday:

Calories: 4200
Protein: 270g (27%)
Fat: 210g (45%)
Carbs: 296g (28%)

P/w lunch was a massive plate of spaghetti with meat sauce. Half the meat sauce was for lunch, the other half for dinner, without pasta. And it was awesome.

Having the same problem with the deadlift and at the same weight. I'm thinking my lower back is getting worked hard supporting me on the OHP and box squats beforehand, not sure this is the problem though.

How are you looking to get your deadlift back on track? I'd be interested to know

For now I'll see what happens with a bit of consistency and good eating. If things don't get back on track in the next few weeks I'll reassess and think about making some changes to my routine. But I agree that squats, OHP and dead can be taxing on the lower back.

08 November 2009, Sunday

Beautifully quiet day in the gym today, just a couple of others there with us.

Squat
20kg, 2x5; 60kg, 1x5; 80kg, 1x3
92.5kg, 5x5

I'll be squatting my current PR on Tuesday, beating it on Thursday, and doing 100kg next Sunday, all going well (which it will). Bring it on!

Push Ups
10/9/8

I also did 1x5 dips after these, trying to gauge how my shoulder felt about them, but couldn't really tell because I am so out of practice with dips. I'm not seriously thinking about going back to dips any time soon, just curious.

IR
8/7/6

Qualitative improvement here, better ROM.

Smith Push Ups
bar just above ankle height: 10/10/9

DBRs
30kg, 10/10/10

a bit of hip extension creeping in. If things don't improve in that respect I might look at lowering the weight or doing fewer reps.

Facepulls
30lbs, 1x20

Yesterday's food stats:

Calories: 3750
Protein: 261g (29%)
Fat: 168g (40%)
Carbs: 292g (31%)

Carbs higher to some multigrain bread I picked up at the supermarket. Dinner was pretty crap: pork cutlet and cheese sandwiches. Would have liked more calories from an evening snack, but after nodding off in front of the TV at about 9pm, I decided to take an early night.

I'm impressed at your caloric intake. I've been having trouble getting that many calories into my belly. That will really help out with your lifts.

Thanks James. Given that I'm on a short vacation before more study starts up, I really have no excuses for not consistently eating well.
