I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

That's kinda a cop out. What he had that most people don't have is a dedication to getting that physique. It doesn't take an army of personal trainers or nutritionists to help you out because most of us know what we really need to do but we don't have the will power to do it.

I don't think that's a cop-out at all, when you have a nutritionist making or supervising the making of every one of your meals, it's a hell of a lot easier to follow an exact meal plan that will result in the near perfect results. All he has to do is not eat anything the nutritionist doesn't give him. Granted it takes some will-power for him not to go and snack if he wants a burger, but not as big of a deal as one of us planning and preparing every single meal every single day. Most of us have jobs, school, or something else that takes a significant amount of our lives. His only job was preparing for that role. I'm not trying to say that Jackman didn't work his ass off for his results, but i would be a lot more impressed by someone working a 9-5 job and planning all his meals to the T by himself with the same results.

A) Was the man ever out of shape?

B) A cop out would be saying "I quit training, I don't have the same resources as Hugh".

Recognizing having the best personal trainers, equipment access, time to access it, food on demand, supplements, drugs (roids? HGH? Shit we don't know about yet? Who knows) is not a cop out, it's logical.

Of course dedication is a big thing. It's just easier for him to be dedicated.

C) Perhaps genetics?

He certainly has genetics to help him out. Anyone who is really big does.

To say it's easier for him to be dedicated is an excuse people give for why they are not in shape. I hear it all the time. "I'd look like Madonna too if I were rich like she is". It's all BS. You could argue that stars have even a tougher time than those of us who are "mere mortals" because they have many more temptations than we do. They also have busy lives to lead and you can't claim to be busier than any of them.

Cop out might have been the wrong choice of words but let's give the devil his dues.

I don't know what temptations they have we don't, they just have better and hipper places to indulge in those temptations.

Let's just put it this way: If I was offered millions to be in shape, given as many free resources as I needed, and had pretty much all day, every day to work on it, I'd probably be in better shape.

Money can't buy dedication, but it can enhance it.

Really? You can't think of what temptations a star would have that we wouldn't? They are always attending one event or another. They have plenty more invitations to go to parties and other social functions. They have a certain amount of obligation to attend such events in order to market themselves. There's a LOT of temptations that are put in front of them.

I love what you said about "probably be in better shape". You can be in better shape now. It's about choices. In order for anyone (famous or otherwise) to get in that good of condition it requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice. Money can't enhance dedication. You either have it or you don't.

Just saw him on Jimmy Kimmell the other night and he said it took about a year to get that way. He said he did a lot of pullups (kind of sounded a lot like the 300 workout) and ate a lot. I think he said he ate a chicken every day.

Whole Roasted Chickens from the grocery are about the best buy out there for ready to eat protein. Was at Sam's yesterday and they were just five bucks. But, I would get sick of eating them fairly quick.

Access to the best trainers and nutritionalists (who probably prepare their meals also) is really the only advantage that someone like that has over the average joe. Contrary to popular opinion in this thread, A-list actors usually have extremely busy schedules (except those who aren't getting any work in the first place). I'm sure they also have a lot more distractions and temptations thrown their way (more than I do at least). I also read he worked out for 1 to 2 hours a day 5 days a week. Although that is a lot of work, it's hardly "all day". I definitely think that look is achievable if you want it enough. Main thing IMO is the diet / meal prep issue.

Does anyone here have a multi million dollar contract on the line dealing with their physique?

I'll speak for the group and say no. lol

But then your question implies that money is the motivator. Well that's fine but money isn't the only or even most powerful motivator.

Say for example, a forum member on here was small and weak and got beat up all the time or perhaps even abused as a kid or whatever. I bet they'd be just as motivated, if not more, as someone doing it for the $. Maybe they're going to get all jacked and then beat the shit out of someone and end up in jail but that's besides the point. Or since I hit on the subject, ever see some of the prisoners on those behind the bars documentaries? Lot of super big and strong dudes with little to no future or money. Their motivation is obvious though, not to be Bubba's wife. The point is everyone's got different motivating factors (of course some more than others) and money isn't the only one or even the most powerful one.

Anyway, a regular joe can certainly get in as good a shape as a celeb but they gotta do it on their own. Not to diminish Hugh or anyone else b/c I know he had to be dedicated and I read he trained like an animal.

I would love to have a body like Jason Statham. He is the most kickass, ripped actor I've ever seen. Pfft, Hugh Jackman.

Jackman looks like the kind of dude who'd spend his day tanning his muscles and waxing. Stratham looks like he'd punch out some people and fuck their girlfriends.
