I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Both matter. The effort you require to overcome the friction is equal to the weight multiplied by the coefficient of friction. So higher value of any one of them will need more effort.

Yes yes yes Mr. Mechanical Engineer - at least you spared me the static vs kinetic coefficient lecture. ;) :D Point taken, but the leaves really made a dramatic difference. It felt like I was pulling nothing at all.

Nice sled. Damn, now I gotta get one too...although I've been thinking about it anyway. How many days a week are you going to use it and on what days?

@James: Good question, I really don't know yet. I need to be careful, because I feel like I'm hovering near the limit of my recovery rate right now. Also, I'm alarmed at how my quads are on fire from the backward-facing pulls by the end. That can't be a good sign, so clearly that needs some work. I think I'm going to try 2x/week, at the end of ME squat and DE squat days (Sun, Thurs) and see how that goes. I'm open to ideas if you have some on this!

Sat 10/10 Cycle 5 Day 4 - Rep effort UB

Narrow grip bench: LN warmup, 10x45, 5x95, 5x135, 100@165 (18,12,11,12,12,12,11,12)
BB Row: 100@145: 16,16,15,14,13,13,13
French press: 5x5x90
DB row: 3x6x130

Next Saturday will be dynamic effort on the bench, then the following 3 Saturdays will be rep effort, etc. I think I'll treat this rep effort stuff like a wave and recycle the weights on rep effort days until the BP max goes up.

Didn't start cycle 6 today as scheduled. Lots of stuff has come up, and October looks to be complicated in terms of fitting in training time. I think I'll manage two sessions this week, likely Tues or Wed, and Fri. Next week I should be able to get in three. The week after, two. Then things should be back to normal. Disappointing, but it can't be helped.

I'm not going to be able to start the next cycle myself, at least for a week or so. Sucks, I know. You'll at least be able to manage two sessions - that's better than nothing.

Life's like that sometimes. Don't worry too much about it.
I have had weeks in a row with only 1 workout.

Part of the solution for me was to get my home setup but occassionally there will still be higher-priority calls (e.g. last week I also only had 2 sessions).

@guru, H: thanks... yeah, I suppose you're right. Managing to get some time in is better than none. I am very motivated to try and hit some goals for this year end. It's that which is driving me crazy, because it was already going to be close as it was. Like you said, so it goes. I'm still trying for it.

Yeah, H, switching from a commercial gym to a home gym has been tremendously helpful. If there was a powerlifting gym around, I might still go to that on occasion. But where I am, there is nothing but globo-style gyms for miles.

Tues 10/13 - Cycle 6 (shortened cycle) - ME LB + Coan week 3

ME SQ: 3x45, 3x95, 3x135, 3x185, 3x225, 3x275, 1x315, 1x365, 1x405, 1x435, 1x465 (PR)
Coan week 3:
DL: 2x245, 2x335, 2x425, 2x455, 1x495 (PR)
DE DL: 6x3x375 (90s between sets)
3 rounds (2 min between rounds, 90s between sets) of:
  • SLDL 8x335
  • Tbar rows 8x275
  • GHRs 8x(bw+10lb)
  • SS bar arched back GMs 8x150

I wasn't planning on PRs on either the DL or SQ, but when I put up 435 on the squat and pulled 455 on the DL, I knew I could hit both. Coan is starting to kick my arse. I was feeling nauseated by round 3. Week 4 should be a joy.

Solid work big man.

Great job on the PRs! Those are huge numbers indeed and both in the same day at that. I've definitely in awe.

@LN, James: Thanks... the odd thing is the 1RM attempts never feel that draining. What was a killer was the Coan stuff afterwards. (And if I wasn't doing Coan, I wouldn't have taken a double at 455 on the DL if I was just trying to test 1RM.)

@Sandi: Yep, she has - she's taken it for some drags once so far, and swears she will do it again Thursday, weather permitting. I was supposed to drag it yesterday, but thank god, er i mean, drat, it rained. She says I need to make a smaller handle option, as the 2" PVC pipes make it a grip torture for her.

@H: You're one to talk! Didn't I get this crazy idea from you?? :)

I don't think so, I never mixed Squat AND Coan on the same day.
