I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I found this site when i googled bench press technique, I really like this site and I'm wondering if I should do the 5x5 program. I've recently become really out of shape after knee surgery but now I've recovered and I'm looking to get back in shape. I'm kind of confused though, a lot of people here say stuff like "i workout to become stronger not to look better" but I always thought those two things went hand in hand. I do want to become stronger but if this program wont make me look better (along the lines of six pack abs) then it isn't really for me. I know it sounds shallow but I'll admit that appearance is half the reason I workout. So should I do this program?

Welcome ;)

Even when considering a bodybuilding style program later on, you always need the base strength first.
You can not build a house without proper foundations.

So yes, this program is for you right now.
Focusing on just getting stronger will not result in your muscles blowing up as with BB-routines but there will be some increases in size, which most people here consider a pleasant side-effect ;)
I prefer to be called 'H' ;)
