I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

Non-spring Collars

Postby dansizemore on Mon Apr 13, 2009 10:17 pm

I don't like the spring collars my bar came with. To be clear I'm referring to the collars that keep the weights from sliding on the bar. Even when they're completely depressed they're difficult to add/remove from the bar. My wife said this has almost ended a few of her workouts prematurely so we're looking at some of the alternatives out there.

I'm currently looking at these:

Does anyone have any experience with those or a suggestion for something similar?

These look pretty good. I haven't tried them, but I like the design. Here are a few more types I found (watch what you order, they have both 1" and 2" collars on the same page).

I use the muscle clamps. They look a lot tougher in person. :)

I just got a set of the lockjaw collars. They work great for static lifts so far (squat, bench and deadlift). Will give them a run through with power cleans and snatch to see how they hold up. I didn't get the ones with the locking pins, didn't realize they had them when I ordered mine.

I have been using quicklees for a year or so. they are absolutely positively great. sliding them on and off is child's play and they stay locked where you want them.

I'm concerned that with the quicklees that if you push them on too far, that they would get stuck. Have you experienced this DocM?
