I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

This happened to me first with deadlifts. After warming up and loading the bar with my working weight, I couldn't even break the bar off the floor. Assuming I added up the weights wrong and loaded too much, I recounted. Seeing that I had it right, I tried again, with the same result. I was very perplexed and recounted a couple more times. I had to deload by 10% to finish the set. On the next workout day, I was able to easily complete the set with the weight I had previously failed at.

This happens to me occasionally on deadlifts and Squats. Sometimes I just fail very early in the first set and wonder what the hell is going on. Does this happen do anyone else?

You've probably advanced beyond the begginner stage. At my gym the routine is all about intensity, whether that be reps or sets. Do a couple of light workouts with higher reps or a bit heavier with lower reps. I have boxed squatted 160kg for a single but still find 3 sets of 3 at 110 challenging depending on how heavy the last workout was.

It's normal. We all have good and bad days and that's OK. The key is to make overall progress over the long haul.
