I really debated about starting a log. This journey gets very personal at times. It's hard to announce to the world things you didn't even want to admit to yourself. But that's why I did it. It needed to be right in front of me so I could deal with it head on. And I needed support to get through it. Who would have thought I'd find that here of all places. But I did. These guys have been a great help and encouragement through some tough times for me and they probably don't even realize it. - Pagangoddess

I often will suddenly just get really hot and start sweating whether it's sitting at school or very light activity such as walking. Don't know if it's stress related, maybe because I'm a teen or from weight training etc. Does this happen to anyone else?

A quick google turned up either just your hormones, you said you were in school, not sure if that is high school or college. Teens have crazy hormone fluctuations. BUT I also turned up diabetes in my search. I was reading that hot flashes can occur when your blood sugar level drops a significant amount from like 180 to 100 quickly. This will cause a hot flash.

I am NOT a doctor, and I would ask a real doctor, but this is just some free google advice. In other words, see a doctor, it may be something serious.

Thanks for the info herf, I have a feeling it might be just my hormones(I'm 16) but it's been getting worse lately so guess I should check in with the doctor.

Yeah me too actually, and I leave my window wide open. Doesn't really matter how cold the room is, I usually wake up and feel like I just left the sauna.

Could be hormones, could be stress/nerves, could just be you're wired to be a "sweater". Man, I can stand in the middle of an air conditioned room naked and start sweating by just taking a step. When I am involved in activity, like lifting or basketball, I'm a sopping mess. When I get home from the gym or courts, I can throw my wet shirt against the wall and that shit goes "SHLLLLOP!" and sticks.

I get what you mean. I've got a similar thing. Even when it's freezing cold, I'm overheating at random and get so irritated I want to rip off my clothes, walk around naked and smash everything to pieces, but I'm not sweating. I'm almost 21 now, so I doubt it's puberty, although I still have acne. Going to a doctor is pricy these days and the problem is so vague and minor that I don't want to risk wasting my time.

Well, I think you're right that I'm just wired to be a sweater. Tried something experimental the other day, I didn't move so much in the morning. I'm just a jittery little bastard that does things like run up the stairs instead of walking, ride a bike in the morning etc. and by the time I get to school I guess my heart rate is pretty high. It doesn't help that the freakin school is heated like a furnace either..or maybe that's just me. But getting back to my experiment thing, I took things slow in the morning and got a ride to school instead of walking to the bus stop and wouldn't you know it, no sweating/overheating that day. But I still sweat a hell of a lot when working out..but I can live with that.

I tend to heat up just after I've eaten lunch on a workout day. It's usually my first meal after the exercise and it feels like all my body is burning up. Usually goes away after about half an hour though.

Actually I was wondering a few days ago if the amount of food you eat directly impacts how much heat you produce. Because whenever I'm hungry(rare) I get really cold. I usually heat up after eating a big meal as well.

Yes, that is true. My wife is diabetic and she gets those.

Hopefully it's just a hormone thing, but if you experience any other diabetic type symptoms get it checked out early.

I drink a lot of coffee, which gives me a similar effect sometimes but the cause is pretty obvious. My problem really is actual heat though. It's supposed to be 101 degress F tomorrow and humid where I live. It gets ridiculously hot in my garage where I train. Lately I've been having to go inside the house and drink ice water between sets.

High protein diets can also cause you to "run hot" because of the thermogenic effects of digesting it. This is what I blame for my excessive body heat.

I got these hot flashes as well sometimes. Just yesterday after training, I felt extremely hot in just a few seconds. I personally think it was a combination of training and fatigue from the day before. I felt crappy before training anyway.

It happens to me from time to time, even when it's cold, and especially when in bed. I think of it as my skin complaining about not being able to breathe properly. It happens to my bro way worse. He'll get up dripping in sweat on a mid winters night. It also seems to be pretty random... If it makes you feel any better, he is practically never sick. I think he's taken one day off in 5 years and that was because he drank 3 bottles of whiskey in one go and suffered pretty bad alcohol poisoning. Now *that* I don't recommend. haha

It could also be an overactive thyroid. Do you have trouble falling asleep, are you hungry all the time and does your heart throb?
